Despite it being lunch Miss Long was still in her room grading some work. “Hi Mr Brooks shouldn’t you be at duty?”

“Yes Miss Long, but I had some rather urgent business to do first. I ran into your student Gabriel who made some allegations that you had started teaching the sex ed curriculum already.”

“Oh yes that was my first lesson and to be honest I wasn’t prepared at all. It seemed to go well though, he was very engaged and even wanted homework.” Miss Long remarked pausing in her grading essays as recalled her first lesson.

“Have you taught anymore lessons since?”

“Oh no that was the only one so far.”

“Ok that’s good because I don’t think the course is ready to be taught to the wider school yet. I think it’s best we postpone till we’re sure the program is ready for the whole semester.”

“But the note from Mr Keith was that I was to be teaching sex ed from now on.”

“Yes, but I’ve spoken with Mr Keith and he understands that it takes time to implement new curriculum and that we would need to get resources up to date, lesson plans set, assessments written and timetables changed.”

“Yes, you make some valid points. I did wonder why Mr Keith would change the curriculum so abruptly. Ok I will continue with the current science lessons, but when do we start sex ed?”

“I think we will need more time to discuss that. How about we meet after school and plan it out?”

“Yes, I’m swamped today. How about we meet at my place tomorrow after school? If that’s ok with you Mr Brooks?” Miss Long asked after consulting her calendar.

“That works for me Long. One more thing that student Gabriel you worked with your first lesson. Since he’s already been introduced to the subject how about we use him to gauge student reaction to the lessons we’ve planned?”

“Student feedback is crucial for engagement with the content.” Miss Long thought out loud, “yes that’s a good idea Mr Brooks. I can see if he wants to try a few of the lessons out that we have discussed.”

“Excellent Long I’ll see you tomorrow then I’m back to duty.”

“Ok see you Mr Brooks thanks for coming to see me.” Miss Long said turning back to the essays that for some reason she had agreed to grade. Sighing she picked her pen back up and continued reading grumbling that she did not even teach these subjects.
