Chapter 128 by SG SG

What to do about Pat?

Keep pressing her.

"You nearly had your golem crush my head, and now you're acting like we're friends!" Andrew said, nearly shouting with frustration. "If you're not a golem, why would you do that? Don't you still think we're responsible for Chambers' ****?"

Pat's face went white and Andrew immediately realized his mistake. "He's... oh my God." Tears welled in her eyes and she struggled to speak. "I knew it. I kept holding out hope, thinking maybe he was just in trouble or something, but deep down I knew Cecil was dead. Oh, God, he's really gone."

Now Madison spoke. "And we're responsible. How does that make you feel, Pat? About us?"

Ross and Andrew stared at her with disbelief, but Madison was focused on the nude golem before them. Pat took several seconds to compose herself enough to reply

"I- I don't know," she stammered. "I don't think- I mean, you didn't have a choice, right?"

"We did," Madison said. "We could have saved him, but we didn't. Doesn't that make you angry?"

"It doesn't," Pat said. "You must have had your reasons. I can't imagine what they are, but people don't kill a man like Cecil for no reason. I'm so sorry that you had to do that. It must have been incredibly hard on you."

"Madison," Ross hissed. "Why did you tell her? She could still blow the lid off this whole thing!"

"I don't think so," Madison said. "I think whatever he did to this poor thing's script forces her mind to bend into certain postures. That's why she can't know she's a golem, and I'll bet there's stuff she can't know about him either."

She turned to the golem again. "So, Pat, what are your plans for this weekend."

"I don't know," Pat said, staring at the floor in front of her. Her eyes darted back and forth for a moment, then her back straightened. Andrew and Ross stared at her bouncing tits, but Madison studied her eyes as they filled with confusion. "I- I guess whatever Cecil wants."

"But Cecil's dead."

She opened her mouth, but no sound came out. She looked down, then up again. "No," she said finally. "He's just... Cecil's out. He's... not... here. He's not here, but when he comes back, we'll do something nice together. Thank you for reminding me! But I still need to find him. Do you have any idea where he is?"

Madison ignored her and turned back to the boys. "She can't know he's dead, and she can't know she's a golem. Our scripts govern behavior, but somehow hers also extends into the process of assimilating information. I've never seen anything like it."

"But people do that all the time," Ross pointed out. "That's just willful ignorance."

"People have brains. We have scripts." Madison tapped her head. "None of your wet squishy organic matter in here, just instructions. You can tell a golem how to act, but not how to perceive. Until now, at least. Whatever Chambers cooked up is a huge leap forward in Yetzirology, but he apparently just used it create this poor simulacrum of his ex-wife."

"I'm right here," Pat interjected. "I'm not a golem or a simulacrum! I'm Mrs. Cecil Chambers, and my husband will clear all of this up as soon as he gets home. Which will be soon, hopefully. Until then, can I get you anything to eat or drink while you're here?"

They stared at the nude woman, who was now treating her former captives like houseguests. She waited patiently for their response, oblivious to the fact that she was naked in her living room with a bunch of strangers who just admitted to murdering her husband. Andrew spoke first.

"Do you have any whiskey?"

Does she?
