At first, there was simply confusion, and panic. Governments pouring millions into research, and then into restructuring as people began to realize whatever was happening was a long-term deal. Then, people started gravitating toward roleplay and regression. It had already existed for a while, among the field of psychology and in the realm of kink, but now ABDL, DDLG/MDLB, CGL, and any way in which a person acts like a child dominates the social landscape, especially the people behaving like small children full-time.

Businesses already selling diapers and cribs for adults got a massive influx of customers before brands like Pampers, Huggies, and Babyletto all pivoted to making adult-sized products as well, and it became increasingly normal to see fully grown adults in rompers and a noticeable bulk around their bottoms, running clumsily around or clinging to someone for comfort.

See, not everyone had such a strong parental instinct that needed to be fulfilled, but plenty of people were interested in giving up some of their responsibilities for a taste of childhood again. Maybe not every new big/little connection was interested in using diapers, but a fair few of them were, especially since it became so mainstream.
