Push her away / The Only Mission (S2)

Not taking any chances, Leon pushed Claire away with all his strength. He really hoped that he was wrong, but when he saw her red eyes and sharp fangs, he felt like his heart has stopped beating for a moment from the overwhelming sadness he had felt. He raised his arms and pointed the Matilda at the female vampire.

“No... Not you too, Claire...” Leon shook his head with tears in his eyes. The vampire that used to be the lovely girl he knew in front of him was still trying to balance herself from the push. It was a good chance to shoot, and he was about to take it. That’s not Claire anymore... He kept trying to convince himself.

“Wait! I’m not like those monsters! I can control myself!” Claire raised her hands. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, forcing her fangs to retract. Her eyes were icy blue again when she opened them with a small smile on her face, “Please... I just need that vaccine to help Sherry...”

“What... What happened to you? And Sherry?” Leon was a little shaken by Claire’s change and frowned in disbelief. But he hasn’t lowered his gun yet. What if it was just a trick? He felt his hands slightly shaking.

“Sherry and I were both bitten and turned... But I took a vaccine after that and it helps me to better control my... condition...” Claire tried her best to explain the situation to Leon, “If you can give me the vaccine, Sherry won’t become one of those mindless vampires!”

“And then what?” Leon gritted his teeth and said in sorrow, “I promised Lieutenant Marvin that I won’t let this thing spread... If I let you get away...”

If I let her get away, the infection won’t stop at Raccoon City. I can’t let that happen... Not this time... However, the times he’s spent with Ada flashed in his mind and he lacked to strength to pull the trigger. The line between good and evil blurred when the corrupted was someone he knew.

Before the confrontation could get worse, the facility began to shake slightly and it distracted both of them a little bit. Suddenly, the wall behind the vaccine equipment was crushed and something came through it. When the dust settled, Leon could hear the terrifying footsteps from behind. Damn it, it’s that thing again!

Mr.X performed a heavy strike and swept both of them over the edge of the balcony. Leon and Claire fell down to the lower level and landed badly. Leon got his back hit hard and the pain flooded all his sense for a moment, when the vaccine dropped from his shaking hand. Claire broke a leg and a few ribs, but they healed almost instantly due to her vampiric physique. And she took the advantage of it to grab the vaccine one step ahead of Leon.

“Claire...” Leon panted and quivered when he looked up at her.

“Come on, Leon... Don’t die on me.” Claire didn’t leave the injured Leon but easily lifted him up, “We must go before that thing gets us!”

She’s... helping me? Leon was afraid that when Claire came close to him she was going to bite him, but that didn’t happen. He felt her scorching gaze on his neck, saw her eyes slowly turning red again, but she hasn’t made a further move. Is she really capable of controlling herself? Just like Ada? Leon didn’t know what to do anymore, especially with all his injuries.

Leon and Claire crawled through a vent to get away from the ferocious Mr.X and got to the worker’s break room. They were slowing down since Claire felt harder and harder to control her thirst around Leon, and Leon was still too weak to move faster.

“Hold on, Leon... I believe that this is the way out...” Claire pushed open the door and got them into the upper level of the waste disposal center. What the hell is this place, Leon wondered.

But Mr.X wasn’t going to let them get away as it busted the door behind them only seconds after they left, and leaped on to them when they were going down a stair. The fragile structure couldn’t take such a heavy strike and collapsed.

“Jesus...” Claire barely managed to grab on a ledge of the broken stair, but both Mr.X and Leon fell down to the disposal center. “Leon! Are you alright!?” She yelled aloud with concern.

It seemed like Mr.X hit straight on the solid ground and suffered from serious concussion. However, Leon wasn’t much better as he fell on a slope first and slipped down there, hitting his back again. He could barely get up with his shaking legs and clicking spine, but he **** himself to when he realized that Mr.X was still moving.

“Leon! Hang in there! I’m coming down to get you!” Claire climbed up the stairs and was ready to jump.

“No!” Leon shouted with what’s left of his strength, pulled out his gun and aimed at the twitching Tyrant. “Claire... Go help Sherry... I’ll be fine...” His voice was so faint that it felt like he was whispering, but he knew that she could hear him.

He knew what that thing was capable of. If they couldn’t kill that thing with Ada’s supernatural strength and his weapons in the NEST, it wouldn’t be better with Claire joining the fight. Besides, without her being around he might be able to spare himself from the moral dilemma.

“Leon, what are you doing?” Claire looked at him with confusion.

“Just go!” Leon cried out aloud, and panted heavily after, “Please...”

Claire was shocked and speechless. She struggled for a few seconds before she made up her mind, jumped across the broken staircase and landed on the other side. She glanced at Leon sadly one more time and left the room.

The black coat Mr.X has been wearing was damaged. The Tyrant’s power was growing and, at some point, it was strong enough to break out its power limiter. Its hands became sharp claws and a pair of bat-like wings grew from its back. Having mutated into the Super Tyrant form, it waved the wings and flew into mid air.

“Oh shit...” Leon grabbed the shotgun and made his last stand fearlessly, “Alright, come on.”

The Super Tyrant struck down but missed as Leon rolled to the side and fired at its head, though no significant damage was dealt. It was less agile than before, but it was still a **** fight as Leon knew that there was no way he could kill this thing with his equipment, and he couldn’t even run away from it. When he was eventually tired and slow, it would be the end.

“Leon!”

Just when he thought he was going to die, he heard an lovely and angelic voice calling his name. He was pleasantly surprised when he saw a familiar red figure standing by the console in the control room above him.

“Ada!?” He joyfully smiled.

“Draw its attention for some more time! I’m going to lower the crane for you to climb up!” Ada yelled aloud through the mic and began to operate on the panel.

“That sounds easy...” Leon struggled to stand with his almost broken body and kept firing at the monster.

The Super Tyrant attacked more ferociously as it was becoming more adjusted to its new body and new power. It was getting harder for Leon to fire as he was kept on the run to dodge those fatal attacks. He was exhausted when the monster left a scratch on the back of his uniform and blew him away. He rolled a few rounds on the ground and barely stood up again.

“Uh... My back... Give me a break.” Leon wiped the cold sweat on his forehead while firing at the Super Tyrant that was charging at him.

The monster was about to perform the final blow, when it was hit by the heavy crane operated by Ada and thrown to the side. Half of its head and one of its wings were destroyed and it went silent. Leon wasted no time and climbed on the crane while signaling Ada. However, when the crane was slowly lifting, the Super Tyrant started to twitch and the wounds were healing.

“That son of a bitch just doesn’t give up...” Leon gasped when he saw what’s going on down there.

“Leon! Use this!” Ada crushed the window and threw an Anti-tank rocket launcher towards Leon.

“Ha! Where did you find this thing!?” Leon happily caught it and immediately aimed at the monster below him.

The Super Tyrant fully regenerated and let out a vengeful cry. It flew towards the crane and tried to get the annoying cop with its giant claw. But it was greeted by an Anti-tank rocket. Its body exploded into pieces and turned into a mist of blood and flesh in mid air.

“Jesus Christ...” Leon breathed heavily as he dropped the weapon and leaned on the crane for some rest. But there wasn’t much time that as the crane lifted to the level of that broken stair and stopped. Looked like it couldn’t get any higher.

“Leon, go that way, find the elevator and take it to get to the roof! There’s a helicopter there that could get us out!” Ada shouted through the mic while looked at him, “I’ll meet you up ahead.”

“OK. Stay safe!” Leon jumped across the broken staircase and landed on the other side.

Where are you, Claire? Leon realized that this was the way Claire had escaped through. He tried to run faster but the pain from all over his body was telling him not to.

When he went inside the weapon test field he was shocked by the mess. There were ashes and blood everywhere, and there was a hole on the wall at the end of the room, which was probably caused by that damaged railgun on the other end. But Leon didn’t see Claire around, so he believed that she had made it out.

After walking through a long corridor, he finally reached the elevator. The way out of this hell was on the roof. So was Claire. Leon held his fists tightly and he was still conflicted about what he should do up there.

The Darkside Chapter - The Only Mission

After watching Leon safely escaped, Ada sighed a breath of relief and was about to catch up with him. She turned around but suddenly halted due to a terrifying sensation of cold. A cold she had felt only once in her life - when she was drained by the vampire who turned her. A feeling of ****.

A cloud of dark mist seeped in the room from the gap under the door before it was slowly opened. A man in a black cloak was standing outside. The dark mist was covering his face, but Ada could still feel his uncomforting smile behind it.

“Who are you?” Ada asked cautiously. Even he was meters away, the unholy presence of his alone convinced her that he was a powerful vampire. An elder, perhaps.

“Does it matter? Well, what matters is that, I’ve finally met you in person. Ada is your name for now, right? Ha.” The Dark Man laughed sarcastically, “I see that you’ve failed your only mission.”

“And why does it matter to you?” Ada didn’t back down even if her body was slightly shivering from fear.

“It doesn’t.” The Dark Man gracefully shook his head and walked in the room, “But when they find out, that you’ve failed and escaped with a mortal, who knows the secret of your kind, what will they do? They’ll hunt you down. Both of you. It’ll be less fun to see you perish.”

“What do you want?” Ada couldn’t even move when the Dark Man got closer and stood right in front of her.

“Nothing. I just want to make clear the consequences of your actions for you.” The Dark Man reached out his hand and tried to touch her face, but he stopped only a few inches away, “You see, you could always drain him and bring him to your side, show him your world. And they won’t blame you for having a little pet to comfort yourself after failing the mission.”

Ada’s jaw was shaking. She remained silent but all kinds of thoughts were flooding her mind. She hasn’t thought much about what would come next after their escape. Forever hiding from both sides or becoming a bloodthirsty monster like her... Were those the lives she wanted to **** on him?

“I knew you couldn’t make a choice like this. So,” The Dark Man stepped back, turned around and headed towards the exit, “I’m going to show you a way out. A vampire girl in a red jacket named Claire has the last G-Virus sample, in a pendant that once belonged to Annette.”

Ada widened her eyes when she heard this.

“You can still complete your only mission, Ada. Although, I don’t think they’ll give that to you willingly. The vampire girl, and your pet. But that won’t stop you, right? Well, I’ve had my fun here, but I’m going to enjoy the show for a little bit longer.” The Dark Man smiled and left the room, with his voice still echoing in the hallway, “See you around.”

When his presence was gone, Ada could finally move and she gasped for air like she hasn’t breathed for a long time. But more importantly, She couldn’t shake the thoughts off her mind when she rushed out the room.

The G-Virus... The mission... But, Leon...
