Healing

One morning a few weeks later, John managed to finally stumble out of the bedroom to find Veronica sitting at the kitchen table. Her mouth was hanging open and she was staring.

He followed her gaze to the piece of paper the doctor had given her.

"Ronnie... what does it say?"

As tears formed in her eyes, she managed to squeak out, "green."

He hugged her as they both processed this final change. John had been worried about the last suggestions healing in Veronica's brain. What if there was something the counselors had missed that she believed that was holding their relationship together?

Finally, John asked, "do you think it's all," he gestured at her head, "gone?"

She cautiously answered, "I think so?"

He looked at her, searching for anything on her face that gave away growing anger toward him but saw nothing.

He continued to wait for Veronica to lose some implanted idea and realize she hated him, but despite his worry, the day never came.
