Chapter 8 by DaLoHo DaLoHo

Now we enter modernity.

The advent of the modern pet girl

As time progressed and the power and privileges of the urban population increased, so did the stark divide between them and the aristocrats decrease.

True pet wives remained confined to the upper classes however, the practice became more common among the lower nobility than before. Likewise, 'pet dressing', a fashion trend of the upstanding middle class which imitated the practice of their betters, continued to increase in popularity.

In the large cities, it became commonplace to see the wealthy lead their eared and tailed wives on leashes. The collar soon became synonymous with a wedding ring and often even replaced it. Unlike the pet wives of the aristocracy, these women were no pets, they continued their usual working lives.

The church had long since maintained that a low-born woman's virtue was that of labor, so that she may support her husband. As such, unlike their noble counterparts who were kept naked and on the ground most women worked either in their homes, or as was the case in wealthy families, in the family businesses.

This work ethic had a strong influence on the poorer noble families who, as time progressed, saw their wealth and position decrease while that of the citizenry increased. Many of these families soon adapted aspects of the working classes and their pet girls were expected to perform mental labour such as book or record keeping.

With the advent of the sciences, it was these pet girls of the low nobility, sponsored by their families and with much free time, who were among the greatest scientific minds of their time.

Over time, these bright-minded women led to a new stereotype of pet girls who would come to be known as agnesian pets, in honor of Maria Geatana Agnesi, a bright mathematician who would become famous throughout Europe.

By the early eighteen hundreds, 'pet dressing' had become a common practice throughout western Europe and even the large cities of the east. In Poland, Russia and the Balkan, the old **** pets had long since been supplanted by the noble pet wives of their western counterparts, only remaining in remote areas where serfs were usually used as such.

The common class now openly emulated much of their aristocrat's lifestyle. Wearing collars had become the normal indicator of a woman's marital status and not being led on a leash in public was a sign of neglect. The expensive movable ears and tails of the nobility likewise became more and more common in the wealthier circles.

Still, women remained clothed and chaste and on their feet. Only in the privacy of their own home did some people act out fantasies beyond their station.

Industrialization brought new developments. As factories rose up, more and more administrative positions sprang up. The success of the agnesian pets had led to the perception that mental work was women's work, and as such lower and middle-class women quickly filled these positions.

Freed from their previous physical work in the household or farm, these women soon took even more inspiration from their agnesian idols. It became common for clerks and administrative staff, which was almost always completely female, to have a nude dress code. Their workstations were adjusted to allow them to work entirely from the ground.

It became a common sight for workers to lead their wives to work on their leashes. They brought them to their offices, waited for them to undress and get on all fours, before leading them to their workstations and removing the leash to get to their own work in the production line. After the shift, they would come and pick them up again.
