“How come I never get called out for special meetings?” Eric complained.

You and Sabrina had each gotten an email from Garrison summoning you down to his office, and considering it was well after you’d arrived late it was likely not about your little situation that morning.

The morning so far had been pretty calm, and the three of you had gotten down to some work. Eric’s Love Life Saga had been put on pause, and there weren’t any new developments other than that his not-yet-girlfriend Beth had gotten her restraining order properly filed with the police. They hadn’t met up last night, and Eric had an appointment scheduled at a clinic for when he went back to school to deal with his crabs situation.

“You do get called into special meetings,” you pointed out to Eric as you and Sabrina were heading around the conference table. “When you get sued.”

“Gee, thanks, Eric,” Sabrina smirked. “After all I’ve done for you, helping set you on the right track with the love of your life.”

“I… wouldn’t say she’s the love of my life yet,” Eric backtracked. “But… OK, yeah. Sorry.”

“Hear that?” you asked Sabrina. “He said yet. And he didn’t deny being in love with her.”

Eric’s spluttering behind you as you left the conference room was delightful.

“You think this is about Joy?” Sabrina grimaced at you as the two of you walked quickly down the corridors, passing the offices of the law firm Associates and paralegals.

“I mean, I’m not sure what else it would be about at this point that isn’t that,” you shrugged. “Except that I’m being called in too, so… hard to say.”

“That’s what I was thinking,” Sabrina said.

Steps from Garrison’s door you gestured for Sabrina to take the lead, and you couldn’t help but glance down at your girlfriend’s ass. You followed Sabrina in to find Garrison behind his desk, and Carol from HR sitting in one of the chairs in front of it looking imperious. Your relationship with Carol had been a little bit of a rollercoaster over the summer, primarily caused by Joy and her mother causing waves. The fact that Bellagamba had been removed from her Partner status at the firm, and Joy had been proven to be a snake in the grass, should have gotten her off your back.

And yet, here she was, holding back a scowl.

“Good morning,” you said.

“Take a seat you two,” Garrison said, gesturing to the two chairs positioned next to each other where both he and Carol would be able to see you both. He sounded tired even though it was almost noon.

Sabrina glanced at you with a slight frown, and you both took your seats quietly. There was no point in asking questions - you’d already been smart before this and Garrison’s lessons had only reinforced that keeping quiet was going to be your best bet in a situation where you weren’t sure of where you stood.

“Alright,” Garrison said, sitting forward and leaning his elbows against his desk. “Here’s the situation. Are you two living together?”

Sabrina glanced at you with a raised eyebrow, and you gave her a one-shouldered half-shrug before turning back to your mentor. “I moved into Sabrina’s apartment this past weekend, prepping for the end of the summer,” you said. “We’ll be moving back to our college at the same time, and my situation with my living arrangement here in the city was getting weird.”

“I offered my place for the last week,” Sabrina added. “After Gemma suggested it.”

Garrison and Carol glanced at each other this time. Carol sighed in the back of her throat and scribbled something on a notepad in her lap, then looked up at the two of you. “I have a relationship declaration form signed regarding John and Gemma,” she said. “I don’t have one about you two. At this point in an internship term, I wouldn’t usually consider it pertinent to follow up on any rumours, but in this case, I believe I need to - are you two participating in a relationship of an intimate nature?”

“I’m sorry, are there ‘rumours’ about that?” you asked, pivoting around the question slightly.

“Not rumours,” Garrison said. The fact that it may not have been said directly, but he was aware something was going on, made this whole thing more complicated. He grunted softly, shaking his head and frowning. “More of an accusation.”

“From who?” Sabrina asked. Your mind was racing, trying to figure out who would make an issue of you and Sabrina at this point. None of the Associates or Partners would care unless it was some unknown jealous creeper. That could be directed at Sabrina or Becks, too. Lucy also knew that you and Sabrina were together because of everything that had happened and Becca and Charlotte’s, and Eric being involved with her; she could be vindictive enough to call in an accusation and make some wild claims.

Carol cleared her throat and glanced at Garrison. Garrison’s frown turned to a grimace. “It came up during discussions between Tanya Bellagamba and our outside legal representation handling the suits and countersuits in regards to her and Joy.”

“Fuck,” Sabrina blurted out. Bluntly. And then she blushed and bit the inside of her cheek.
