Chapter 59

Do you dare look into the crystal, or will you resist?
First, you must know of Trina's fate!
You take a deep breath. "Corinne, if you will grant but one request unto me, I promise to you that I will not resist."
She raises an eyebrow. "You bargain with one who wields such power?"
"One question. One answer. It is all I ask. Do this for me, Corinne... if only because you once tried to end my life, and I refused to take your life in return, even though nearly all my council advised that I should. If you love me as you say, grant me this."
Corinne's lip trembles, and she looks away momentarily, then back again. "So be it."
"What have you done with Lady Trina Sarawynn?"
"Do not!" she hisses. "Never speak that name in my presence!"
"That is my question. You granted me an answer. Tell me what has become of her, and I shall gaze into the heart of the crystal willingly. Deny me this, and I swear you will need to cut away my eyelids to **** me to look upon it!"
Corinne is silent for a long moment, standing as if made of stone, staring at you with an unreadable expression. Then, at last, she speaks. "The crypt beneath the church."
"Does she live?"
"One question. One answer. That is all I -"
"DOES SHE LIVE??" you shout at her, pulling painfully against the rope about your neck.
Corinne stumbles back, her eyes wide. "She lives!" she whispers.
You nod your head. "Thank you. Bring the crystal forth, and let the magic now be done."
The young woman cocks her head slightly to the side, looking at you with some confusion in her eyes; it seems she did not truly expect you to submit so readily. "You doubt the crystal's power," she says.
"If we are truly soulmates, bound by fate, then for me to resist would be both foolish and futile," you say. "{if Maid of Steel = 1}And I will now tell you something which I have told no one else, and surely you will see that I speak the truth. This moment was foretold to me, by a seer whose power was perhaps no less than your own. The spirits spoke unto her, and they said that we would meet again, you and I; and that upon that meeting my heart, my life, and my soul would hang in the balance. All of which she spoke has come to pass - but only up until here and now, for she could see no further past the fog of what is yet to come. {endif}I am not the descendant of sorcerers, Corinne... but I know destiny when I see it, and I know that I must face it without fear. Show me the seeing-stone."
Corinne steps forward, extending her hand, the sparkling sphere resting within. "Open your eyes that you may see, Beloved," she whispers.
Gaze upon the crystal; what do you see?
