Chapter 4 by DaLoHo DaLoHo

What's next?

The early medival pet girl

The fall of the western roman empire was a shock that reverberated across Europe. In its wake, countless new kingdoms and polities rose across Italy and its former provinces, each now more isolated than during the times of the Empire.

In the east, Byzantium remained strong and with it, roman institution, including pet keeping remained largely unchanged if distinctly Greek-flavored. This for example manifested itself in that the helenized elite of Byzantium had never really adopted the institution of pet wives, preferring large harems of **** pet girls instead. As a result, pet girls were truly only a phenomenon of the high elite and far less prevalent throughout society.

All throughout Europe, the industries and supply lines that had supported the extravagant and diverse pet subcultures fractured. Many died out, others became highly localized.

This localization, intense isolation and the chaos that followed the end of the empire led to a rapid evolution of the institution of the pet girl.

In Italy itself, the many Lombard and gothic tribes that had taken over the now fragmented lands, absorbed much of the pet keeping culture. Many pet girls of the former roman elite ended up in the hands of the new petty rulers.

As a result, not much changed. The quality and diversity of accessories soon diminished with highly complex items such as articulated tails and ears soon becoming valuable family heirlooms. The new kings, **** for legitimacy quickly adopted the Roman practice of pet wives, and many of the passed-down accessories became part of their family's legacy and heraldry.

In the provinces, such as Hispania and Gaul, the end of the Empire led to a rapid decrease of public pony girl races, almost eliminating the practice outside of noble families. The 'free' stables disappeared, and even the **** stables of the noble houses diminished.

The only races that still happened, were infrequent events hosted by the minor kingdoms for celebrations. These races were both entertainment, but more importantly, opportunities to raise the prestige of noble families. As such, these families began to increasingly focus on producing only a couple of extraordinary pony girls for these races.

Using slaves gradually fell out of fashion and by the rein of Charlemagne the great, it was the daughters of the noble houses themselves, naked and with their hands tied behind their backs, that raced each other for glory and prestige.

During this time, cat and dog girls remained relatively rare in western Europe outside of Italy, with only few royal families keeping them in addition to the customary racing ponies. This changed once Charlgemagne was crowned the emperor of the revived Roman Empire. After his coronation by the pope, he brought back replicas of movable tail and ears purchased from the east and popularized them amongst his court by giving them away as rewards.

As a result, the noble houses of Europe started having pet wives again, in addition to the still prevalent pony girl races.

Next up the high medieval age!
