Tom feels a red haze swell even more and threaten to overtake his ego. A month of fending off Mrs. Hope and her ilk and protecting his sisters had developed his self-control and discipline to a superhero’s level.

The idea that Tom may be a kind of superhero now does cross his mind as Britney’s lips lock onto his. Her tongue enticing his to play; Until Jessica coughs embarrassed for the both of them, because neither Britney or him are.

Britney and Tom are however able consciously choose to stop making out which is miraculous in and of itself with the current situation. That seems to convince Jessica.

“Fine, I’ll take it.” Jessica says after a moment of silence.

A masculine voice comes from the laboratory doorway.

“Take what?” None of the room’s occupants had seen fit to notice the door being unlocked from outside.

Dr. Jack Turner walks inside the room before shutting and looking the door behind him. He is surprised as he should be to find three students in the room alone. The scene would have looked humorous a month ago, as if they were cutting class to make out.

Britney lurches forward to defend her siblings and lover,

“Doctor Turner! I know you said to wait on the vaccine but my sister and I accidentally infected our brother by bringing in contaminated milk from outside.

“I accept full responsibility for what has happened but leaving my brother to become transformed into one of those mindless animals outside is far worse than whatever has happened to you.” Jack admires Britney’s abundant confidence in her statement. He wishes he could say the same.

“How did you get in here though? The door was locked.” Dr Jack asks as he formulates more questions.

Britney is rather proud of what she says next, “Given what I was planning, I took the calculated risk of exposure to lift the skeleton master key from Mrs. Hellgrave while she was distracted.”

“I’ve used the vaccine on both Tom and myself. Jessica is about to take it too. I took the time to find an improved version of it though from your alpha version.”

That surprises Dr Turner a little, he asks with some hope in his voice “Improved how? How did you know what the problem was?”

Jack has the sense to blush as the two school girls giggle infectiously at that.

“Really Doctor, admittedly I know nothing of the details but Ms. Summers was eager to relay her experience to anyone who wants to listen… There is a whole flock of those infected eager to listen about the tale of the man who stays a man.

“Apparently you have quickly become something of a cross between a local legend and celebrity among the infected girls. Apparently, they possess enough of their former intelligence to remember and realize that turning every man into a woman will drive them all insane in the end.

“They want a solution as bad as we do, but only the most experienced and developed have regained enough self-control and discipline to even dream of doing anything about it… Mostly they just use the intelligence to set traps for the men that are left.”

Jack Turner’s mouth hangs open at the treasure trove of information Britney just relayed while snuggling into Tom’s warm embrace.
