Chapter 42 by CMW CMW

Who is going to be the next lady of the night?

Not Elise (Thank the Gods!)

When I woke up, there was a sandwich and orange juice next to bed I was resting on. Looking up, I saw Victoria with a book standing by.

“Hello,” I said as I stood up.

“The Lady and head maid both said you are to eat and then rest until dinner,” she said. “I am serving to ensure that you do so.”

I chuckled. “They think I would defy them?”

“Of course not,” Victoria said. “Though they were worried you may have missed a note. Plus, we wouldn’t want you to be bored. And I would love to chat with you. We have seldom chatted much recently.”

“That is a fair point,” I said as I sipped the juice and took a bite of the sandwich. “I would love to hear more about you.”

She laughed in return. “Compared to you, I think you’d find my background quite boring.”

“Oh? Try me!” I said.

“Well, I was born in the capital, so in that sense I suppose I was well off. I had moderately good grades but my mana potential was too low for magic school. And we didn’t have the extra capital to spend on such things. My mother had an illness and its treatment was costly. She worked in the grand archive too. She was it’s headmaster before I was born. Father was a soldier in the capital elite guard too. Their lives-”

“Annela and Joseph Wal…. Wal…. Something. Right?” I asked. I can’t believe I didn’t recognize little Vicky. To think the world was so small. I guess I never met her, but I remember when her mother resigned from the grand archive.

“Waltzer,” she said with a smile. “To think, you’d know so much.”

I took another bite. “It isn’t that surprising, I spent a lot of time in the capital back then. I don’t remember if I told you, but I am older than I look.”

“That certainly would explains your seemingly endless knowledge,” Victoria said. “Okay but then what about you? Can I hear how your life started?”

Now that was an interesting question. Do I tell her the full truth? My cover story? I guess I could mix them a bit. “Rosemary Ashwood, was born in the Ashwood forests near the Azula mountains,” I lied. Well partly. I was born near the Azlua mountains but I couldn’t admit to being born somewhere different than my current last name. “My parents didn’t work in the forest though, they were miners. Specifically jasper stone miners,” I added this time telling the truth.

“Jasper? I heard the mines near the Azlula mountains ran dry several decades ago,” she said.

I nodded. “I wasn’t there when it happened. I left before that. I didn’t want to live that life, so I studied and made my way to magic school. I got a letter about the mines closure, but I didn’t respond. My parents ended up passing before they found new work.”

“That’s awful,” she said.

“Yeah, to be honest. I don’t even remember what they look like,” I admitted. I felt like an awful child at moments like that. “I never really had a family ever again. I came close a few times, but I never have truly felt at home before… well, now.”

Victoria came over and hugged me.

I patted her head. We switched to lighter topics after that. I finished my sandwich and we laid in bed together until we were summoned for dinner.

The Lady of the Night gave me a curtsy. “Thank you for the gift.”

I gave her a thumbs up. “Did our newest sister teach you how to use the magic?” I asked.

“She did,” the Lady replied.

The doors opened and we all took our seats. Master stood up to make his normal address. “Tomorrow we shall be going to town for supplies. Our dear Rosemary shall be looking for special materials as well. As a result, I have a few pieces of information to report. Natalia or Brenda shall accompany her at all times. No exceptions. Also, Celeste will be this months Lady of the Light.”

Celeste stood up with her hands to her face, as if she was about to cry. “Thank you so much Master.”

He nodded for her to sit again. “In addition, our newest sister Brenda is doing well. So we shall remove the restriction on her name. As long as we suffer no issues during our trip, then that will remain in effect. I look forward to seeing what you accomplish my little warrior.”

Brenda blushed. “I … uhm. Thanks?”

We all giggled a bit.

“As for the honor for today. Sofia and Brenda, you have earned my service,” he said as he plated their dinner.

Sofia blushed too and seemed ready to try and race against Brenda but calling it a race was generous. Brenda won by a landslide and thus she got to serve Master. On her second night too! Warriors really were so lucky sometimes!

Dinner went as it always did after that. With us all lining up like before. Brenda still refused to cup her breasts. I heard Master teasing her but he was too far away from me to make out any exact words. He actually stopped in front of me before he reached forwards and squeezed Marianne’s breast that was almost touching my arm.

“Master! I’m so happy!” she squealed.

“Would you like to take a girl with you?” he asked as she was scooped up.

“No. I’m sorry if it is selfish but I want you all to myself if I can Master!”

He smiled and took her away. Lucky girl. Oh wait, that meant Celeste is going to be doing breakfast tomorrow. Neat.

How does Celeste cooking go?
