Chapter 2 by Sassypants Sassypants

Does Bill do some digging about this mysterious diary?

Bill has questions

Bill waited until Perky finished stapling up her flyers and left. Bruce was, admittedly, watching her ass sway in her short, tight skirt as she walked away. Perky knew she was hot, and was apparently having fun flaunting it.

With Bruce distracted, Bill saw a chance. He got up and walked over to the bulletin boards, casually looking at the fraternity pledge party flyers.

Bill began his best “frat bro” impression to strike up a conversation with Bruce. Turning, Bill got to see Perky leaving the student center, becoming as transfixed at her ass as Bruce was.

Without looking over at Bruce, Bill simply asked, “Wow. Is she dating anyone?”

Bruce, suddenly noticing the guy who was now standing next to him, looked at Bill for a second and chuckled. “No offense, man, but she’s out of your league. Out of my league as well.”

“Do you know her?” Bill asked.

“Sorta. She’s a senior over at Delta Delta Delta. Her name is Becky or Becca or Binky or something. She has less than zero interest in college guys. Rumor is she’s dating a doctor.”

Bill nodded. “Yeah, but a guy has to shoot his shot,”

Bruce nodded. “Yeah, nothing to lose but pride, right?” He chuckled awkwardly. giving Bill the impression that Bruce HAD shot his shot and lost some pride.

Bill decided to shoot his shot at this point about the diary, hopefully having broken the ice with Bruce. “So I couldn’t help but overhear…. What up with that diary thing you two were talking about?”

Bruce looked around, suddenly nervous. He sized Bill up, and seemed to come to a decision about Bill. He nodded slightly and whispered conspiratorially, “Ok, if you’re EVER interested in going after a Tridelt, you gotta go in knowing this. Supposedly,” and he drew that word out to emphasize it, “Supposedly they have this diary from back when Dean Thomas was a professor.”

Bill thought for a second. Dean Thomas was the Dean of the university. He apparently came up through the ranks of professors and became Dean. That’s about all Bill knew of the guy.

“And?” Bill asked. “Why does that matter?”

“Dude…” Bruce said, as if Bill was a moron. “The Dean, the ‘holier than thou’ Dean… the ‘let us show a better way’ Dean… the guy’s a horndog! He slept his way through the sorority back when he was teaching some required freshman classes. They have the goods on him!”

Bill tried to process this news. The Dean, and what little he knew of the guy was that he was supposed to be fairly uptight and VERY straight laced had slept with, apparently many, sorority sisters. He abused his authority…. And if he was doing it then…. Was he still doing it now?

Bruce snapped Bill back to reality. “So yeah, watch your back with the Tridelts. They know where the skeletons are buried with that guy. Piss them off, and they’ll have the school, through Dean Thomas, come after you. You’ll suddenly start failing classes and get expelled. I know people that had friends that happened to!”

Hearing the, “friend of a friend” but made Bill suddenly skeptical. “So they use the diary to **** the Dean?”

“All the time! He’s terrified of it getting out!”

Bill nodded a couple of times, thinking to himself.

“So… where is it? Why hasn’t anyone stolen it?” He finally asked “Surely the Dean would pay good money to have it back in his possession…”

Bruce looked around again, seeing if they were being listened to. “It’s GOTTA be in the Tridelt house right? I mean, if you're gonna **** someone, the threat has to be, like, NOW. You want the diary ready the moment you need it. And I mean where else could it be? They're not going to risk a sister taking it home. Even I wouldn't trust myself with something valuable from my fraternity house. And even if they took good care of it, they'd hand it back eventually when they graduate and it would end up back in the house."

"But if the Dean wants it back, that feels like the first place he'd look."

"Well obviously it's not out in the open. It's probably someplace safe, or secret. Like a hidden safe or something. Maybe one needing multiple keys to open. And maybe only a few of the sisters have the keys and know where the safe is while the rest just vaguely know of its existence."

"I guess that could work.... but to be really safe couldn't they just put it in a safety deposit box?"

Bruce shrugged. "I dunno, seems a hassle in case they need it fast.... But if it was there, I mean, they would still need documents to know which safety deposit box its in and how to open it, right?"

"Right...?"

"And where would those documents be?"

"...in the sorority house?"

"Exactly!"

Bill mulled over what the guy was saying. While it was *possible* the diary was somewhere else, Bruce had to be right; it either was in the sorority house protected somehow, or there were instructions in the house on where it was and how to quickly retrieve it. The road to the diary went through the sorority itself.

“Anyway,” Bruce said as he shoved a party flyer into Bill’s hand. “Pledge party this weekend. Show up. I’ll make sure your name is on the guest list! Um… what is your name?”

“Bill. Bill Stephens.”

“Right. Keg gets tapped at 8. See ya there!”

Bruce trotted out of the student center as Bill returned to his table. His mind was racing.

The uptight Dean was a notorious horndog. The hot sorority had the goods on him and were using it to **** him for favorable treatment. And… AND given the Dean’s previous pattern of using his position for sexual favors, was he still doing it?

Bill ran his fingers through his hair and exhaled slowly, thinking about what he just had heard. It made sense. Sometimes the most publicly kind people were the worst behind closed doors. The friend of a friend thing made it sound like an urban legend, though. But if it was true, and the Tridelts had a diary on the Dean being an actual scumbag, let alone the sorority using it to **** him…

If it WAS true, and if he could get proof…. And that was a lot of ifs… He could break open an ongoing corruption scheme involving the university for years. He’d shine a light onto the scandal…

But surely, someone before him had to have tried? So the diary must be very secure or very well hidden . Which made it all the more interesting to Bill if he could get it, it would only add to his journalistic fame: breaking the story wide open AND obtaining the unobtainable

THAT would be how he would get people beyond just the student population to know who he was.

He had a mission now, a way to break the anonymity of the university. To become famous, he just needed to figure out if the diary was real and how to get his hands on it.

What is Bill’s plan for determining if the diary exists?
