"I could get used to this," Ross said with a grin. He was laying back to the left of Madison on a large porch swing. "Is that true?" Ross turned to Madison. "You spent most of your time at home sitting in an empty room?"

"Yeah..." Madison sighed. "It's nice."

"Of course it is," Jane said derisively. "It turns you into a blissed-out dipshit. The real stroke of genius was the unreality component. When she's modified, real life seems like a dream and when she's not her experiences under the modification feel like a dream."

"...yeah," Madison said lazily, not even registering the insult. "I remember all that stuff we did, but it feels like it happened to somebody else. Maria doesn't even seem like a real person."
