Chapter 26
by Caesar25
What's next?
Duel of fates
Lana: Master Kenobi, I... What are you doing here on Mandalore?! Did you bring the clones?!
Bo-Katan: A friend of yours?
Obi-Wan: Satine asked for my personal assistance. I couldn't turn her plea down. I asked the 501st legion, whether there were any clones willing to join my volunteer **** and you see just how many of them had come. They are truly loyal soldiers to the end.
Pre (pointing the darksaber at him): So, you have sided with the duchess, Jedi or not... That makes you our enemy!
Bo (pointing her blasters at him, to which Obi-Wan takes a defensive form): You don't get a chance to kill Jedi every day!
Lana (deactivating your sabers and stepping between them): Wait, stop! Master Kenobi, we need not be adversaries! We are both Jedi, I'm positive we could find an alternative...!
Obi-Wan: I do not wish to fight you Lana, but I have taken a vow. I will protect Satine, not as a Jedi, but as a friend. You aren't here as a Jedi either, but a Mandalorian. The kind that has been exiled and now, out of ****, threatens her and wants to take the throne.
Pre: That's a harsh simplification of events, but I won't blame a Jedi for their ignorance of our history... We represent tradition, and order! Long ago, the leaders of Clan Kryze defeated most of the other prominent clans in a civil war, exiling us from our homes. They brought "peace" to Mandalore, a peace that means the locals couldn't protect themselves, even if they wanted to! Your presence and the clones you have brought are evidence enough to this statement. Without outside help, Satine's regime is weak and ****! I won't let Mandalore be ruled by somebody like her!
Owi-Wan: Then, you'll have to get through me first...
Pre (readying to attack): With pleasure!
Lana: Can't you guys just stop this and pretend we have never seen each other here, heh...? Like, we entered the palace from the other side and...
Obi-Wan: I'm sorry Lana, this battle is inevitable due to our conflicting interests. Unless your forces withdraw from Sundari, I won't be stopped by our Jedi relations and will defend myself, should you attack. To the **** if I must. Let it be mine of yours...
Lana (nodding with eyes closed): I see... I wish it hadn't come to this... May the **** be with you, Master Kenobi...
Obi-Wan (in a fight stance): May the **** be with you, Lana Ordo...
Pre: The last time we met, you managed to escape. It won't happen again...
Bo (opening fire): Finally you are done talking! My trigger fingers have been itching for this!
Bo fires a barrage of shots at Obi-Wan, which he deflects with ease. Pre charges at him with the darksaber and the two spar intensely as you and Bo stand and watch, not being sure whether you should or if you even could help Pre with his duel. Sabers clashing and flashing, both show their fine swordsmanship. Pre uses his agility and deeper experience with the Jetpack and armour to his advantage, using the armour to his defense if needed and a burst of fuel from his jetpack to his offense, when trying to outmaneuver Kenobi. However, the Jedi is experienced in such combat too, if not with the jetpact, but the armour is similar to his Jedi armour, even if not as strong as Beskar. When both tire somewhat from the intensive duel, Pre attempts to use all other elements of his arsenal. Firing blaster shots with his free hand, shooting a cable to immobilize, using his vibroknife to attack with both hands, he tries them all, but he can't overpower the Jedi master's famous Soresu defense form. He isn't the best user of Soresu in the order for nothing. He answers Pre's diverse attacks with **** pushes and pulls, trying to unbalance the Mandalorian leader whenever possible, but his jetpack serves him well during each attempt. However, at a moment of weakness, Obi-Wan manages to pull Pre's feet out of under him with the ****, and hold him at bay with it, despite him burning his jetpack to get back on foot or at least get away. The **** is mightier than any engine, he's **** onto the floor and Kenobi steps over him, preparing to thrust his lightsaber through Pre's chest. You don't know what to do, just stand and watch indecisively, but Bo-Katan acts. She fires another barrage of blastershots at him, distracting him from killing Pre. As the shots are ineffective, she grabs her vibroknife, activates her small, round energy shield, and engages in a similar duel as Pre did. As his concentration is broken, he releases Pre from the **** grip with his jetpack still firing fuel at a maximum rate, which suddenly rockets him against a wall with his head taking most of the impact, knocking him ****.
Now it's only you girls and Kenobi. Bo however isn't as good at dueling a Jedi as Pre was. Despite her enthusiasm and quick moves, Obi-Wan counters all attempts and swiftly forces her to be on the defensive instead of the offensive. She's clearly no match for the Jedi master, and following a short back and forth, he **** pushes her against a wall and she too passes out. Now then, only you remain combat ready to fight him.
Obi-Wan (panting): Huh... Now... How will we part from this encounter Lana...? Friends or enemies...?
Lana: I have already told you, I don't want to fight you! But I have my obligations to my clan, as you have yours to your loved one...
Obi-Wan: So you know...
Lana: Yes, I have known about that for a long while now. Wasn't my business. Know that, whatever happens here, the council won't know about your affair. I promise.
Obi-Wan: I appreciate it, but I don't think I'll be able to return to the order after this battle is settled... I left a very important assignment unanswered to come here as quickly as possible when I heard about the **** Watch's invasion. The council won't turn a blind eye to that, no matter what.
Lana: We could find a solution! You are one of the wisest masters of the council, they might make an exception if...!
Obi-Wan: I wouldn't ask them to make an exception because I have been a council member for many years now. I want no special treatment, if they won't exile me on their own, then I'll choose self exile. This is the only honourable way left for me.
Lana: I understand, master. You have gone all in. This means there's no way of persuading you to let me pass...
Obi-Wan: And there doesn't seem to be a way to dissuade you from attacking the palace... Which means we understand each other perfectly well. There's only one way to go from here... Defend yourself!
As you are raising your lightsabers, he attacks you head on. His movements are swift and precise, it requires good reflexes to even parry his attacks with two sabers. If you only had one, you might have been in great trouble now. With two though, you are holding your own, even if while you are **** to be constantly on the defensive. His moves resemble Anakin's movements a lot, you have fought him seriously only once and sparred with him in the temple a couple of times while you were both padawans. Obi-Wan's training was clearly mirrored by him back then, giving you at least a little bit of an experience of what to expect from Kenobi now. The Soresu form is mostly based on excellent and long term defense and some occasional strikes until the enemy tires out or makes a mistake. He is a real master of prolonged fighting against an opponent. However, you are the third opponent he faces new in a streak and he's getting more and more tired as your duel progresses. And yet, you are the one who makes the first grave mistake, not him. Amidst one of your spinning strikes, he grabs your right hand with his left and grips your wrist so hard, that you drop your saber. You try to strike from above with your remaining left handed weapon, but he parries it with a horizontal block above his head and kicks you in the knee, unbalancing you and knocking your other saber out of your hand as well, while you take a shot at his belly with your wrist laser. He deactivates his saber for a second, however, your shot bounced off of his armour, without doing any harm. Now, you are disarmed, save for your Mando weaponry of course, but that would do little against him, as you have witnessed it previously.
He gets up from the perceived mortal shot unharmed, holds his saber above his head and stands still, not striking you down.
Obi-Wan (indecisive about your fate): I can't bring myself to end the life of a fellow Jedi. Though, I know, if I let you go, you will help Satine's enemies again. I mustn't risk her well-being...
Lana (kneeling in front of him since his kick): You aren't a Jedi today, you are just a volunteer... And I'm no Jedi now either... I'm a Mandalorian. And Mandalorians fight to the end!
Obi-Wan: Lana, don't make me...!
You reach out behind your back and **** pull the laying Pre's darksaber into your right hand, activating it instantly. When Kenobi saw the deactivated hilt flying towards you, he made up his mind, trying to strike you vertically, but you blocked it with the freshly acquired weapon. His pure, blue lightsaber testing its metal against your whitly mixed black blade.
Obi-Wan: You could have just surrendered...!
Lana (defiantly): Surrender isn't my style!
You dash out of his saber with your jetpack, get on your feet, and don't let him take the initiative again. With the honour blade of the Mandalorians, you attack him with all the strength of every Mandalore who has ever wielded it. Finding some hidden second wind you didn't even know of, your reinvigorated attacks **** Obi-Wan back further and further, until he reaches the throne room's door. Amidst your sparring, he deflects your **** lightning, redirecting it at the door's console, frying it, and opening the door. Not wanting to let you enter before him and have an opening at Satine, he quickly runs inside and makes a last stand in front of the throne, waiting for your next move. As you enter, you see Satine sitting on her throne, not believing Kenobi's being driven back. She's surrounded by her remaining few bodyguards hesitating whether to engage you or just wait for the Jedi master to fight you further, without getting in his way.
Satine (angrily): Lana! Have you joined **** Watch for good?! I was expecting more from you...! Yet it seems blood defines your actions rather than sense! Are the terrorists paying you well?! Or have you sunk so low, that you are killing for free?!
Lana: I didn't come here to trade insults or political arguments, "your highness"! I just want to bring Mandalore back to where it belongs, to our ancient ways!
Satine: Hah, "ancient ways"! That's what all traditionalist zealots want because they can't understand how the galaxy is changing around them!
Lana: There's no need for further ****! I don't want any of you to die, just recall your troops and we can end this! Here and now, without bloodshed!
Satine: I suppose it includes my imprisonment or exile... Or both. Or am I supposed to perish in an "accident" and save you the trouble of having royal blood be on your hands?
Lana: I meant what I said, enough Mandalorian and clone blood has been spilled. End this battle! Only you have the power to do it!
Satine: I am not striking deals with terrorists. I have sacrificed soo much for Mandalore and her peace... I will not stop now, if it means my life will be taken, then so be it! Liberty and justice are principles far more important than self preservation!
Lana: I will not kill you, whatever your political opinions may be. But Mandalore needs a new leader, nonetheless!
Satine: Let me guess... You? Ridiculous! You are barely in your twenties!
Lana: I do not intend to role our people. Somebody more worthy than either of us will take the role. I'm just the last domino in line that will make the change a reality.
Obi-Wan (panting heavily): I won't let you touch her...!
Lana: Obi-Wan, you can't stop me, your energy was consumed fighting Pre and Bo-Katan. You just don't have enough of it left. Please, step aside, the duchess won't be hurt if you do so, you have my word!
Obi-Wan (attacking you): That's not an option!
His attacks are rather reckless and imprecise this time, his emotions must be affecting his battle style. Soresu can't be used without a clear mind and that's something Kenobi doesn't possess while fighting as his lover's life is at stake right behind him. He's full of openings to both your saber and your other forms of attacks. Trying to spare him, you just punch him a few times when the opportunity arises, trying to **** him to give up this lost fight. After each hit suffered, he just gets weaker and weaker, not wanting to use his emotions to strengthen him and so they are clouding his clear mind as he suffers them. The whole scene looks as if you were just toying with him now, while minutes ago he was the one having the upper hand. At an opportune moment, you **** **** him instead of punching and kick his saber out of his hand, then pushing the weaponless Jedi master to Satine's side. As this happens, Mandalorians of all clans storm the throne room through the door, with Pre being the first one to enter.
Satine (as Pre enters the room): Pre Vizsla... Now I get to meet again the head of this bloodthirsty organisation!
Pre: Always a pleasure to meet you, Satine! Your reign ends now! Our brothers are in favour of liberating Mandalore.
Satine: Your reign of terror can't be mentioned with liberation in one sentence!
Pre: We shall see how the public will react to your dethronement! Good work there, Lana! Wait, in your hand, is that...? The darksaber...?
Leader of Clan Fett: She has defeated the Jedi with the darksaber! How interesting!
Leader of Clan Varad: The mask of Mandalore and the darksaber in possession of the same person? That's truly the will of the ancients to have a new Mandalore!
Pre: W-what?! No, the darksaber is mine! She merely took it while I was...! Ehm...
Boba: Knocked out? Seems you have lost it! Finders keepers!
Leader of the Children of the Watch: You lost it fighting the Jedi... She has defeated the Jedi who had beaten you... Now, the darksaber is rightfully hers by right. This is the way.
Mandalorians together: This is the way!
Pre: No, I wasn't defeated! The saber can only be taken in a battle to the **** and I'm still alive!
Bo-Katan: Look, we can discuss that later on, apparently, my sister's still sitting on Mandalore's throne as we speak!
Satine (sarcastically): How truly insightful of you, "sister".
Ursa: What would you have us do with the duchess, Pre?
Pre: Have her executed alongside her bodyguards and the Jedi!
Leader of Clan Dar'Manda: Oh, I've never been paid to kill royalty or Jedi! Can't help it, I love this job a lot!
Leader of Clan Ha'rangir: Wait a second. Pre no longer possesses the darksaber! Why should we follow his orders?!
Leader of Clan Fett: That's right. I would like to listen to the young Ordo's opinion on the matter of the duchess.
Pre: How dare you?! I'll have you executed for treason for this!
Leader of the Children of the Watch: You have lost your right to lead, Pre. My clan will follow you no more.
Bo-Katan: Have you gone mad?! We haven't even taken the palace and you want to start a new civil war already?!
Satine and Obi-Wan look at each other confused as the arguing happens in front of them.
Pre (showing his hand to you): I'll tolerate no such disrespect! Lana, hand me the darksaber, I'm the rightful ruler of Mandalore!
Leader of the Clan Fett: You can't just hand the darksaber over to somebody. It must be earned through combat. Even if she hands it over to you, it will change nothing. I will not follow you again, rather offer my clan's allegiance to the girl!
Leader of the Children of the Watch: As will I and my clan!
You are **** about giving it back, gripping it firmly instead of handing it over. Not to keep the power for yourself but in fear of sparking a civil war among the gathered clans if you did. Yet, keeping it could start a brawl in the room just as easily...
Pre (demanding): Lana! The darksaber...! Now!
Lana (having finally made your mind up): No. If we want a new Mandalore, we'll need renewed leadership. Meaning both Satine and you!
Pre: How dare you, little...! I challenge you for the saber! Here and now! To the ****!
Lana: Wait, we haven't even taken the city, the duchess is literally sitting on the throne as we speak...!
Pre: I'll kill the duchess once I have reclaimed my honour and right to lead! Answer my challenge!
Leader of the Children of the Watch: He has the right to challenge you Lana. You must accept.
Bo-Katan: This is laughable, Lana has been Pre's second in command for some time, that too has happened only due to a stroke of luck against me! She doesn't stand a chance against him!
Leader of Clan Fett: We shall see. She's holding the darksaber for a reason.
Leader of Clan Dar'Manda: Whatever happens, know it guys, I haven't had this much fun in my past decades! Bloody battles, returning to our homeworld, watching a duo fighting for the title of Mandalore! This is way better than any holocinema on Fondor!
Leader of Clan Varad: Yeah, gives me the vibes of the old times, when we were the champions of the galaxy under a powerful Mandalore! Those times may be back!
Ursa: Lana, what's your answer? Will you accept the challenge?
Lana (raising the darksaber into the air): I accept. For Mandalore!
Mandalorians together: For Mandalore!
