After dealing with Katherine and confronting Ada, Leon must now find a way back to Claire and get her out alive. Can he do it?

Chapter 11 - Lost And Regained

It didn’t take him long to realize that he needed a general staff clearance to unlock the door and get out. If he had his full strength, he might destroy the door by ****, but that’s not gonna happen after the exhausting fight with Katherine.

So his best bet was to investigate the level 4 testing lab. There wasn’t any vampires in this area, and Ada must’ve turned off the UV light earlier, so he made it to the lab easily.

However, the lab itself was basically a horror show. There were dozens of culture flasks all over the room, within each of them housing a specimen of a G creature. Giant eyeballs, claws, even organs like hearts or lungs...They have been doing the experiments on the G-Virus for quite a while.

According to a note on the desk of the security chief, orders had been given from the Umbrella Corporation Investigation Committee to relocate the G-Virus sample from the East Area to the West Area.

But the reason behind this outbreak was not his concern anymore. He didn’t find any clearance chips, but he did find a remote clearance authorizing device on the desk.

“OK...Let’s see...” Leon operated the cameras in the security room, and noticed that Dustin and Sherry were hiding in the development section in the North Area, “Hey! Dustin, Sherry, are you alright?”

“It’s Leon’s voice!” Sherry was happy to hear that and turned on the screen next to them.

“Leon?” Dustin was confused at first when he found no one on the screen, but he figured it out quickly, “Where are you? Is Claire with you?”

“No. I was locked inside the West Area.” Leon shook his head, “Where’s Claire?”

“She went to the East Area to get the administrator clearance, but she hasn’t come back yet.” Dustin sounded nervous as he was holding on the desk with his both hands, “I’m afraid that she got herself into some trouble.”

“OK. I see that you have the general staff clearance.” Leon looked at the Sherry’s wristband and felt relieved, “Please place the wristband on the authorizing device so that I can get out and help Claire!”

“I got it!” Sherry found the device on the desk and quickly placed her wristband on it.

“Thanks!” Leon retrieved the updated chip on the device and smiled.

“Leon...” Dustin paused to look at Sherry for a moment before he continued, “Please, bring her back alive.”

“I will. I’m on my way now.” Leon noticed the strange tone in Dustin’s voice, but he didn’t want to waste more time and left the lab immediately.

Upon returning to the power room, suddenly, Mr. X crushed the ceiling and dropped right in front of Leon. It was covered in blood and there were several slashes on its coat, like it had fought with something before getting down here.

“You again...” Leon didn’t fear the Tyrant like he did before. He was just becoming impatient.

“Class A breach detected. Lab quarantined until target is neutralized.” The female synthetic voice echoed in the room. The doors back to the Main Shaft and to the lab were simultaneously shutting down.

“Oh, great.” His combat knife has been broken and he has used up the magnum bullets, so Leon broke the fences and made himself a sharp steel pipe as a melee weapon, “Bring it on.”

A weird red light flashed in Mr.X’s eyes as it growled with anger and charged at him, while trying to swing a punch at him. Leon dodged the attack without sweat. Its attack patterns were quite fixed, and Leon could dodge those even when he was human.

The only problem was how to kill it. Leon tried to use the same trick that killed Katherine, but Mr.X did not fall for it, as it already noticed the broken fences and didn’t even get close to the edge. He had to find another way.

As a vampire, his senses were heightened, so Leon could hear the heavy heartbeats of Mr.X under its coat. The exposed heart on its chest was the only weak point on its torso.

He dodged another punch from the Tyrant, pulled out his shotgun and pointblank fired at its chest, dealing significant damage to the already half-broken coat. Mr.X was staggered, unable to retaliate, only to take the firepower continuously until the coat collapsed.

“Take this!” Leon jumped on top of Mr.X and stabbed the steel pipe right through its heart and torso, pinning it on the floor.

When the coat - the power limiter - was broken, Mr.X immediately underwent a further stage mutation. However, with its external heart already impaled and its circulatory system destroyed, it didn’t have enough power to continue mutating, nor to remove the pipe.

Mr.X stared blankly at the ceiling while losing a great amount of blood. It gradually stopped struggling and went silent. Leon couldn’t identify whether Mr.X was actually dead or not, but at least it couldn’t bother him for the rest of the time.

“Target has been neutralized. Ending quarantine.” The female synthetic voice sounded in time to remind him of what needed to be done.

He opened the door with the clearance, jumped across the collapsed bridge and rushed towards the East Area. He went through several rooms and finally reached the greenhouse, where there were a dozen of dead plant-like monsters on the floor.

Something terrible must’ve happened here. I need to find Claire at once, he thought. She must’ve gone deeper into the lab, which required a senior staff clearance to gain access to.

Just when he was thinking where he could get such a clearance, the door opened and Claire was standing right in front of him. There was a large hole on the floor in the lab behind her, and she was covered in dust. She seemed to be exhausted after a big fight, but when she saw Leon, a joyful smile bloomed on her face.

“Leon! You made it!” She stepped forward and hugged him happily.

“Yeah.” Leon smiled and wrapped his hands around her back, “I’m glad you’re OK, too.”

“I found the administrator clearance.” Claire showed her wristband with confidence, “Now we can take the central elevator and get-”

“Attention: Leak of a Level 4 virus detected.” The female synthetic voice suddenly sounded along with piercing alarm bells, “Facility lockdown initiated. Self-destruct sequence will begin when lockdown is complete.”

“What?” Claire was shocked.

“Come on!” Leon grabbed her hand and ran towards the exit immediately.

But they were already too late. The East Area has been locked down and even the administrator clearance couldn’t get them past the door. Leon tried to crack the door by **** but he was not strong enough to do so. If he could feed on something...

“Damn it! It’s all my fault! I blew that thing down.” Claire was frustrated. She wandered around in the hallway, trying to figure out what to do next.

“Don’t say that.” Leon tried to comfort her by softly placing his hand on her shoulder, “You couldn’t have known.”

“But Sherry...and Dustin...” Claire wanted to cry, but it was at this moment that she seemed to have something in her mind, “Right! The device.”

She didn’t explain and just ran back to the lab. Leon slowly followed from behind. He wished he had known another way out, he really did, but such miracle was never bestowed on him.

Back in the lab, Claire was using another remote authorizing device to grant the administrator clearance to Sherry’s wristband. Since the door of the North Area was crashed from the beginning, they could get to central elevator and leave this place. Just, not with Claire.

Claire bade her farewell to Sherry and finally collapsed on the floor. Leon sat by her and tried to wipe the tears on her cheek.

“Hey...” Leon said softly, “You look better when you smile.”

“Ha...” Claire **** a smile on her face as a respond, but sadness caught up with her quickly, “Sorry. I screwed up and now we both are gonna die in here.”

“I’m the one that should be sorry. I’m not strong enough.” Leon blankly stared forward and said, “I keep saying that I will get you out alive. And I failed.”

Claire remained silent and buried her face in her arms. Leon took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. Vampire or not, he would just add another number to the casualty of the Raccoon City Incident, become another victim of Umbrella.

He did his best, just not good enough, like everyone else. He had accepted his fate. But there was still someone he couldn’t let go.

“You know, if we met at another time, in another place...” Leon murmured with a little smirk on his face.

“No. We met last night in that gas station. That was when and where we should meet.” Claire lifted up her head and replied firmly, “I don’t want anytime or anywhere around. I love you, Leon, more than anything.”

Leon was shocked. She has always taken the initiative and he just passively accepted. Or maybe, he was just too afraid to show his true feelings to her, fearing that his twisted nature would bring her more harm. But, if this was the end of their time, could he at least once be honest?

“But what about you?” Claire gazed into his eyes, “What do you think of me?”

“I love you, too, Claire.” Leon approached her face with a sincere smile.

She wasn’t ready but her lips have already been sealed by his. They shared a passionate kiss, holding each other’s head, and the sweetness of Claire’s saliva stimulated him drastically. He licked the cut wound on her tongue and could still taste the aroma of her blood.

They broke the kiss and started to took off their clothes while giggling. Leon slowly crawled down to lift her legs up, then buried his head between her thighs and started to lick.

To his astonishment, Claire slowly sat up on the desk and looked at the surroundings with her curious eyes. When she eventually looked at him, Leon saw a strange surprise and happiness in her eyes.

“Claire!” Leon stepped towards her and held her hand, “You’re alive!”

“Am I?” Claire replied in a shaking but joyful tone, while softly touching the bite marks on her neck, “I think I just come back for more.”
