Chapter 34 by MichaelChaseLit MichaelChaseLit

Yes. Of course we would.

HQ

We all crammed into the elevator. It was a tight squeeze. I tried not to think about Sara’s breasts being smushed into my back as we took the short ride up to the top floor.

We were met with… a hallway. It looked identical to the floor that our own apartment was on. Just a line of numbered doors along a generic, intricate carpet.

I was about to ask if they were fucking with me, but they all just went to the closest door and watched Kenzie use a key to unlock the door. That’s when I realized something was up.

The door unlocked and was met with a second door, this time made of metal. All it had was a scanner, which Kenzie then held a keycard up to.

“Don’t worry, you’ll get a copy of all this so you can get in.” Kenzie assured me before then door slid open with a metallic whizz.

“Holy shit.” I mumbled under my breath as I saw the inside of the room.

‘Room’ felt like an understatement, even if it was technically correct. It was the massive. Almost every wall that would separate rooms were taken down to make for a much larger area. In the center of the cavernous room was a giant computer, kind of like the one from Phineas and Ferb that the platypus used.

To the left was a gym, almost as decked out than the one at Vocx (though I had to imagine I’d be using this one a lot more than I’d been using my job’s [to be fair, I’d never used the Vocx one, but still]). Past the workout equipment was a locker room. I noticed there wasn’t a separate male and female one,

On the other side of the room were eight small rooms alongside each other. The first three had Replica, Hygieia, and Gone Girl engraved onto nice signs. There was a blank, and then the next was Duality. I assumed that’s where all the suits were kept. The one after Duality had a sticky note stuck to it with my name written in sloppy handwriting. I guess I didn’t get a cool plaque yet since I didn’t have an official codename.

Kenzie walked up to the screen and began typing on the keyboard. The giant screen lit up with-

“KENZIE!” Kate yelled in a panicked squeal.

“Whoops. I’m used to it being all girls here.” Kenzie chuckled.

Kenzie’s screensaver was her, in the nude, taking a selfie with an also-naked Kate. Kate was blushing and covering her chest in the photo, while Kenzie had one arm wrapped around her and the other hand on the camera. Admittedly, it was sweet how Kenzie was giving her embarrassed lover a peck on the cheek.

“Thank God, you’ll have to change it now. I’m tired of seeing that.” Ava laughed dryly. Sara was covering her mouth to hold back her laughter.

“Oh, you know you love them.” Kenzie stuck her tongue out at the tomboy.

“KENZIE!!!” Kate yelled again. The image was still on screen, much to her dismay.

“I’ll change it later, don’t worry.” Kenzie gave a dismissive hand wave. She opened an application on the computer that covered the pairs of breasts. It was a black and white tech-y looking image of the entire city of Lovus. I couldn’t decipher anything on the screen; it was just flashing lights of various colors, with the occasional zoom-in on random dots. It was visual overload to me.

“We have the beautiful Kate here to thank for this baby.” Kenzie grinned at me as I reveled at the screen. “It may seem like nonsense, but the algorithm she made is able to track various activities around the city. Police scanners, 911 calls, etc.”

Kenzie’s smile faltered slightly. “I wish we could do it all. I mean, look at the screen. You see that? All those things… all of those spots are people we could help. It’s too much for us, obviously.”

She pulled up one of the colored dots on the screen it was labeled ‘Viper Strike’.

“Ava brought this guy to my attention. Asshole **** dealer, causing a lot more **** than highs. This dot means the algorithm pulled up a call that likely was caused by this guy based on Kate’s algorithm studying the calls coming in. You see, this guy is pumping out a new strain of ecstasy he labeled ‘Snake Fang’. People calling in with that keyword notify us where he’s been hitting.” She looked at me to ensure I was following,

“It was a lot, but I… kind of understand.”

Kenzie nodded. “Don’t worry, Kate and I will worry about the screen. Let it serve as a reminder to you, though; remember there is a lot of good this world needs. Every dot is someone who’s life we can make better by our actions.”

I looked at the screen. It was incredible in the worst way possible to see just how much pain there was in this city. All those people….

Sara came over to me, likely seeing the look on my face. “I know it’s… scary. If it helps, the cops are helping too, you know? We just try and… clean up between the cracks.” She put a reassuring hand on my shoulder, squeezing softly.

Ava grunted. “Cops can’t do shit.”

Sara frowned, but didn’t argue. Her hand dropped from my shoulder.

Kenzie clapped. “Alright, gals and guy! I believe we have some testing to do, yes? You ate a lot, right, Ava?”

Ava sighed. “I should have known when you made those you expected me to use my power. Fuck me.”

“Testing?” I asked.

Kenzie laughed. “Testing on you, dummy. We need to see how your powers work if you’re going to head a mission, yes?”

Head. Heh.
