When the Dog is Away

When the Dog is Away

The Cat will Play

Chapter 1 by Knobgoblin Knobgoblin

Morgan and Nelson have only been married for little more than a year. They had a picture perfect wedding on a cliff overlooking the ocean on the California coast. The two had gone to high school together but didn't spend any time together until college. You know that age, where you either grow out of your cliques or you get deeper into them. For this couple, the former was true. They each had met on her sorority's freshman mixer and ended up hitting off.

Nelson came from wealth, he was a business major and took his education seriously, to call him a nerd would mistaken his studious nature for his whole character. Nelson enjoyed parties just like any other college student, but he always managed to keep his composure, immersing himself instead in the company of his friends instead of the booze. He knew his friends enjoyed drinking so he mostly only ever consumed the stuff with them and he was never too adventurous with it.

Morgan was a different story. She was on the cheer squad in high school, took dance classes throughout, and when she arrived at college she promptly joined a sorority to seek out the parties with her sisters. It wasn't much different than how she was in high school, but now she could cut loose. These girls at Tau Iota Tau opened Morgan up like she had never been before even helping her find another form of expression through photography and painting. She was hanging out with people she wouldn't have dreamed of during high school and when she met Nelson her curiosity had been peaked.

Throughout the many coming semesters Nelson would become less stuffy and Morgan's dervish-like nature would come to a rest. They started as friends. Nelson was openly taken by her beauty and her charm, the latter being something he wasn't terribly good with. He could hold his own in a conversation but he was kind of uninterested, that is until he had met Morgan. She opened him up and he brought her calm. Then one day she asked him out he reciprocated and the two did this for about a month before making it official.

They would wed a year after graduation. Nelson's father had lined him up with a job at a firm through a family friend. He was going to be mentoring there while Morgan scored her own mentorship with a notable photographer. It was this encounter that would encourage her to be in front of the camera instead of always behind it. It had felt familiar to her cheering days so she took to it quite easily. Neither had found the near constant separation little different than their time in college as he was always studying or working and she was busy with a myriad of art projects that ranged from full-body portraits to running along the sidelines at the football games. The excitement of the roaring fans became something she enjoyed chasing.

Morgan's career was beginning to take off, as was Nelson's. He quickly proved himself a valuable asset even if he was benefiting from a bit of nepotism, it was something that was paying off. Busy with work, Nelson and Morgan's relationship was beginning to change and someone's old nature was beginning to rear her beautiful blonde head and her bouncy bust.

A year later and now...

What path does our lusty dervish choose?
