Chapter 7 by Decadent Empire Decadent Empire

What happens the next day?

Try to function while being exhausted

My alarm rings, shocking me out of a deep, dreamless sleep. I barely manage to roll out of bed without falling back asleep. There won't be any breakfast in bed this morning. I make a strong cup of coffee and stumble out of the door on the way to the bus stop. This is one of the few times I'm thankful not to be driving myself to work. Once I'm on the bus, I don't have to worry about being alert enough to drive, I just have to make sure I don't fall asleep and miss the next bus. Thankfully, I manage to stay alert enough to make all my buses and walk into work like a zombie.

I manage to sleepwalk through the first half of the day to the point that I'm almost surprised to find that it's lunctime, and I'm sitting next to one of my coworkers, Kylie, about to eat lunch. Kylie says something that I don't hear, and I reply with a, "Huh?"

She smiles. "I just said, it looks like you're one of the walking dead."

"Yeah, sorry, I stayed up way too late last night." Kylie is a nice girl. Slightly older than me, somewhere in her mid twenties, I think she wears quite a bit too much makeup and shows too much cleavage, though even I can't help but look every once in a while. She has a reputation as the office slut, and as her friend, even I have to admit it isn't unearned. Because of that, most of the men in the office only talk to her if they want to use her, and most of the other women openely despise her. I think I'm her only real friend at work.

"Sarah kept you up, huh?" she says, waggling her eyebrows.

I laugh. "No, nothing like that. I was just watching a historical movie." Kylie smiles a bit when I clarify that I wasn't doing anything with Sarah. She must have been thinking of something else. "I look that bad?" I ask her.

"Dude, people are shocked you haven't fallen asleep at your desk. I think there is a pool on how long you'll make it after lunch."

"Ha, well, I guess I'll just have to dissapoint them all by staying awake."

"You can always crash at my place," she offers. "We could share a couple drinks order some pizza..."

I interupt her, "Thanks for the offer, but I'm alright." Kylie is so sweet, and she has invited me over a couple times already, although it's never really been a good time. Her face falls when I decline. She must have really wanted to hang out. She perks back up quickly, though.

"Another time then!" We sit together and chat for the rest of our lunch time, and by the time I have to return to work, I'm feeling a lot more awake. I manage to get through the day without falling asleep, to the chagrin of anyone who bet against me. I was yawning a bit, but alert on the way home.

Arriving home, Sarah is there to greet me at the door with a kiss and a big hug. "Welcome home sweetie! Dinner is on the table, we were just waiting on you." I can again taste the minty fresh taste on her mouth. Looking at the dining table, sure enough, dinner is cooked and plates are set. Usually, dinner was a collaborative effort and she won't start until I'm home. After working a long day, it's certainly nice to have dinner as soon as I get home, though I would never ask or expect that of her. Speaking of nice, she dressed up a little bit, too. No loose shirts or baggy sweatpants today. She has on a blouse, with just enough buttons undone to show off a tasteful amount of cleavage, and her pants hug her curves in a way that makes my mouth water more than the food on the table.

"Let's eat then!" I say with a laugh, my eyes glued to her backside as she walks to the table. The meal is splendid, and even Mr. Robinson can't find anything to complain about. She quickly clears the plates when we are done with a smile and a kiss on the cheek.

Mr. Robinson grins. "She's a keeper, that's for sure."

"No kidding. I'll have make it up to her this weekend."

He waves me off. "I wouldn't worry about it. Now, let's talk about tonight."

I laugh. "I'm pretty exhausted. Maybe we can skip doing anything until tomorrow, huh?"

He frowns. "Ah, but I may not be staying here much longer. Are you really going to turn a lonely old man down?"

I feel a pang of guilt. I was so wrapped up in my own emotions, I never thought to consider his. "Ah, of course. I'm not that tired, actually. What do you want to do?"

What does he suggest?
