Chapter 32

Fall
The forest felt alive with the turning of the seasons.
The crisp autumn air carried the scent of fallen leaves and damp earth.
The once-lush canopy above had thinned, allowing beams of golden sunlight to pierce through.
The trees stood tall and rugged, their bark gnarled, branches adorned with fiery orange and deep amber leaves clinging stubbornly to their limbs.
Beneath them, the forest floor was a patchwork of color and texture—a soft, uneven carpet of fallen leaves interwoven with moist earth and patches of dark mud.
The occasional mushroom sprouted from decaying logs, and tufts of moss clung to rocks.
Small animals darted through the undergrowth, their rustling barely audible over the crunch of leaves underfoot.
Draco strode through this primal landscape with a calm, rhythm, his bare chest and arms exposed to the cool air.
His skin was beginning to bronze a little from long days under the sun.
The body still carrying scars from the Battle with the Kobold Leader.
He moved with the quiet confidence of one who belonged to the wilderness, his feet pressing firmly into the leaf-strewn ground.
Behind him, Venetia and Yuki strolled behind, their figures blending into the hues of the autumnal forest.
The orange and amber tones of the trees seemed to embrace their presence, the light dappling their forms with shifting patterns of gold and shadow.
Each carried essential items for their journey, as they followed Draco’s lead.
Venetia, with her calm and composed demeanor, held a bundle of supplies strapped securely across her back.
The straps of the pack dug slightly into her shoulders, but she showed no sign of discomfort.
Her outfit, made of leather, blended seamlessly with the forest around her.
She kept her gaze sharp, occasionally glancing at the underbrush for signs of wildlife or danger.
Yuki, lighter on her feet, moved with an almost feline grace, her steps barely disturbing the layer of fallen leaves underfoot.
She carried a smaller pack slung over one shoulder, her sharp eyes darting from tree to tree, scanning for signs of movement.
Her shorter stature gave her a natural advantage in staying low and agile, and the occasional gleam of a dagger at her hip hinted at her readiness for any threats that might emerge.
Draco halted abruptly, his sharp gaze dropping to the ground.
Beneath the layers of fallen leaves and soft earth, he spotted them—large, unmistakable prints pressed deep into the soil.
Each one was massive, easily four or five times the size of his own foot.
"Another sign of the Minotaur," he muttered under his breath, his brow furrowing as he crouched to examine the tracks more closely.
His fingers brushed the edge of one print, feeling the deep grooves etched into the earth.
The air felt heavier, charged with a faint sense of tension that made him pause.
The beast had been here recently, that much was clear.
"We’ve seen so many signs of its movements," he thought grimly, his mind racing to piece together the creature’s path, "but still no sign of its lair or its current location."
"Are you sure this is the right direction?" Draco asked, his voice low but carrying a hint of concern as he turned his head to glance at Yuki.
Yuki, who had been moving ahead with a slight spring in her step, tilted her head slightly. "I'm pretty sure it is," she said confidently, her tail swishing behind her with a subtle flick.
But then, as if to playfully tease them, she added with a mischievous smile, "Or did it go the other way?"
Draco and Venetia froze for a moment, exchanging a brief, tense look that spoke volumes.
Did they really walked for an entire Day in the wrong direction?
Yuki noticed the brief pause, and the flicker of unease that passed between them.
She couldn't help but let out a soft laugh, her eyes gleaming with mischief. "Don't worry," she said with a grin, walking ahead again. "Of course, we're in the right direction."
As Yuki continued ahead with her carefree steps, Draco exchanged a glance with Venetia.
It was a look of silent understanding.
Without a word, they fell into step behind her, their movements synchronized as if they had done this a thousand times before.
"That Girl is going to give me a Headache"
They trudged in silence through the forest for many miles, their steps covered with the thick layer of red, brown, and yellow leaves that spread over this part of the forest.
Every few minutes, Yuki would steal a glance behind her, with her face of defiance let a small, almost smothered smile escape her.
But the minutes wore on, and even Yuki was not immune to the never-abating passage of time.
Her mood changed noticeably, and her tail snapped with irritation.
After a while, she had enough of the soundlessness only to give out an exasperated puff of breath and turn towards Draco and Venetia.
“Where’s the Minotaur?” she yelped, exasperated, raising her hands in surrender. “We’ve been wandering around for over a day, it should be right in front of us by now!”
Draco stopped also, drawing his arms easily over his chest. The strip of fabric around his groin moved in a shift as he supported his frame, his stare boring right through her. “
" I don't know. You said this Direction is the right one"
Yuki let out an overdramatic sigh“Yes I did! But how much control do I have over what distance it decides to walk?”
“ We will probably come across it soon. Or it will come across us,” answered Draco
"But I must say, it is strange that we haven’t found it yet," Venetia chimed in, her tone thoughtful but edged with concern.
"Monsters that dwell in dungeons are highly territorial, rarely wandering far from their lairs. Why would it walk such a distance?"
"The only explanation," she continued, her gaze sharp, "is that it’s searching for something."
"I don’t know," Yuki said, shrugging lightly as her tail swayed behind her.
"When I saw it last, it didn’t seem like it was carrying anything—like prey or supplies you’d expect if it was hunting. It felt... deliberate, but not like it was on a hunt."
Meanwhile, Draco rubbed his temples, his brow furrowing deeper with each passing moment.
"What could it be searching for?"
