"Ok, I think we're ready to go," Naomi said. She held the needle against her forearm at a 45° angle.

Natalie nursed her bandaged finger and watched apprehensively. After calling half a dozen tattoo parlors and getting the same answer from each, they decided to try a DIY solution. Naomi read several articles and watched a few tutorials before pricking Natalie's finger and squeezing a small quantity of her blood into a sanitized glass vial.

"I don't know, babe," Natalie said. "You could get an infection or something. We don't even know if it'll work!"

Naomi smiled. "No risk, no reward, right? Now, do you want this to hurt me?"

"Of course not," Natalie said. "Why would you even ask?"

Naomi immediately dug the needle into her arm, creating a small crimson dot. Her hand twitched slightly but her face remained impassive. "Because if you don't want me to feel the pain, I won't. All I feel is a little tingle."

She made three more small dots on the inside of her arm, then cleaned up the runoff and applied antiseptic. She turned to do the other arm but Natalie stopped her.

"Don't you think we should see whether or not it works before we make more?"

"I do now!" Naomi said with a grin, setting the needle aside. "Who should we test it with? Anyone you trust to give me back if it doesn't work?"

"Not really," Natalie said. "But what if you were tied up or something?"

"Hey, could you come touch my hogtied girlfriend?" Naomi asked teasingly. "That might raise some eyebrows. Why don't we just find someone harmless and try it on them? You can hover hand me so it's only a second between when I touch them and when you touch me again. I doubt I can get away fast enough."

Natalie nodded. "What about your friend Sophie?"
