Isn't it obvious?

As Diane lay in a pool of her own sweat and fluid, she eyed Karlova curiously. "It's funny, you have a mole on your pinky," she said. "I have one just like it."

Karlova rolled her eyes. It felt like there was some connection Diane just wasn't making. She frowned. "They look almost exactly the same. It's like..."

Karlova reached out and stroked her hair as Diane's concern blossomed into panic. Her breath quickened. "Are you- you can't be. No, that's impossible."

"I am," Karlova told her.

"How are you here?" Diane asked. Karlova was so calm, so assured. Everything felt off-kilter and unreal to her.

"It doesn't matter," Karlova said, and it didn't. Diane sighed and relaxed again.

"You want me to be relaxed," the coed said as she followed the ceiling fan with her eyes. "And I'm relaxed. You want me to be in love, don't you?"

The woman nodded and continued to stroke her hair. She was gently massaging Diane's left breast and humming softly.

"I don't know if I ever was really in love, but it feels so real now," Diane said softly. "I like it and I want to keep it."

"This is interesting," the older woman said. "I've never had you develop true self-awareness at this point."

Diane knew, or didn't know, or knew what that meant. She couldn't seem to fix the meaning in her head. It kept swimming, swimming around. She was so close, so close, so close. The other one was staring at her and something snapped into place in her mind.

"Can I call you by your real name?" Diane asked hesitantly. Karlova nodded.

"What are you doing here, Diane?" Diane asked.
