The breast forms arrive

As John's date loomed on the horizon, Robin focused on their own upcoming event even as it seemed to approach with agonizing slowness. Robin found themselves obsessively checking tracking information for their package, heart racing every time they thought they heard footsteps near their apartment door.

It was Saturday morning when they woke up to their phone's text chime. Robin opened to message and saw a picture of the front door with a plain brown box that looked pretty beat up. Robin smiled, feeling a nervous twinge in their stomach from the anticipation. The smile disappeared when they heard the doorbell.

Robin had just dashed out of their bedroom while still wearing their nightie before remembering what they were wearing and had to quickly go back in to change into something else. Those extra moments cost them, Robin discovered, because once they dashed out to the front door, Robin saw John holding the mangled package. The brown box was ripped along one corner, its contents precariously close to spilling out onto the carpet.

"Hey, looks like someone really did a number on your package," John said, rotating the box carefully to examine the damage while Robin watched helplessly. Robin could see flashes of the discrete black and pink packaging inside, threatening to reveal itself. Their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth as they tried to form words.

"Should probably document this before opening it," John mused, walking it over to Robin.

John gently placed it in Robin's hands, much to their relief. Unfortunately, seconds after John let go, a cylindrical bottle rolled out through the opening, clunking onto the floor. Robin watched in horror as it rolled across the floor until it came to a stop against the wall, the label partially visible. It was adhesive, with a little cartoon depiction of breast forms on the label.

John went to retrieve it, and Robin was rendered motionless. Their entire world narrowed to that bottle and John's hand as he reached for it.

"This fell out," John said, his fingers closing around the bottle. Robin could see the exact moment when his eyes would move to read the label, already imagining the confusion, the questions, the potential rejection that might follow.

But he didn't read it.

John placed the bottle on top of the box in Robin's hands and headed into the kitchen. All at once Robin's legs remembered how to move again and they rushed Robin back to their bedroom. Robin let out a breath they didn't know they were holding, as they placed the items on their bed. Robin's hands trembled as they opened the box and removed the damaged product packaging.

"Maybe this is a sign to cancel," Robin frowned, their head swimming with doubts again.

The box had a large flap of cardboard dangling from where it ripped, large enough to have let the bottle escape. Robin read the instructions on the bottle's label before putting it down again.

Putting it off for as long as they could, Robin finally opened the black and pink box and carefully removed the silicone breast forms. They were heavier than expected as Robin lifted them to examine for cuts or marks. The color was as close to Robin's skin as they could muster and felt surprisingly lifelike. Luckily, it appeared that they were undamaged despite the rough delivery. Once Robin had the adhesive, remover, and forms all inspected, they were put away to try out later.
