Crossing the Rubicon
"That was amazing!" Skye said in awe almost as soon as the credits started rolling.
"I told you," you said smugly.
"Fine, fine. I forgive you for your earlier transgressions," she laughed.
You left the theatre while discussing the movie. You felt the pressure creeping up on you. You would have to act soon.
"My bus is leaving soon," Skye said, checking the clock on her phone.
"Oh don't worry, I'll drive you home."
"Oh, thank you," Skye grinned knowing full well she had almost never taken the bus home after hanging out with you.
The ride to her place wasn't long, so it was excruciating knowing that you had so little time left.
You arrived parked the car on the moonlit street outside Skye's flat. Light rain just started to fall.
"I better get in before tha rain picks up," Skye said, reaching for the door. "Thanks for the ri..."
"Wait a minute!" you nervously blurted out.
Now or never.
"I just wanted to say something before you head in."
"Yes?"
She looked at you questionly with her kind eyes. It was hard to maintain eye contact. The feeling of dizziness was growing.
"I.. I."
You paused and took a deep breath. You weren't gonna stutter your confession.
"I really like you, Skye. I've had a crush on you since we were thirteen... And I can't wait anymore. I don't know if you feel the same way... but if you do, I want to explore this with you."
You told her. You finally told her. A great weight was lifted from your chest. The dizziness wasn't completely gone, but your senses were coming back to you.
Skye had been staring at you, her mouth slightly open, looking stunned. It was impossible to read how she took the news.
"James.. I never.. I..." Skye seemed completely lost for words. "Why.. Why did you..". Your heart dropped. "Why didn't..."
But Sky didn't manage to finish her question. Skye had plunged herself towards you and befor you knew it, your lips were locked in a kiss.
If it lasted for 10 seconds or 10 year, you couldn't say. Nothing else mattered than the kiss with Skye.
After finally breaking the kiss you just looked at each other for a couple of seconds. Your hand had found Skye's waist without you realising it. You retracted it, not wanting to make her uncomfortable.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner," Skye said softly.
You gave a small snort.
"I was so scared of losing my best friend. But I couldn't wait any longer."
You spent the next minutes talking of how you both had liked each other for several years. Skye claimed to have given you hints, but you had not noticed any of them. Probably because they were too subtle for your smooth brain.
The rain had picked up and it was getting late.
You shyly kissed once again and Skye got out of the car. You watched as she ran to the door, giving you a wave and a big smile before entering the building.
Not being able to help it, you grinned the entire way home.
Author's note:
Hello! Don't know if many people actually read these, but just wanted to share some thoughts. I don't know if I'll be making such notes regularly, but I'll just go with the flow in regards to how I feel. It's still VERY early in the making, but hope you're enjoying the story so far. The story will be, as you've probably already figured out, pretty linear and slow (maybe too slow for some people, but I personally like it that way :p). I have many ideas and plans and hope you'll be along for the ride :D
Enough ranting for now, I guess. Let's get back to your story!
