A supervillain broadcast

'Leviathan…? What's going on now?' Gotham City was no stranger to unsolicited broadcasts from supervillains. In fact, it was reported that their city safely kept the record of most hacked broadcasts in a single calendar year. Metropolis was a distant second. The Riddler was to be thanked for it.

"Good evening, citizens of this city," the leader of Leviathan's voice boomed, filling the airwaves. "For too long, we have been at the mercy of those who claim to protect us but are blinded by their own power. They preach justice, but it is a selective justice that serves only their interests."

Aaron leaned forward as if he was playing an intense game. The famed leader of Leviathan, Mark Shaw, was intimidating as fuck. A red gas mask, hood, and sleek, metallic armour. Within the blue dots of his mask, Aaron shivered. He wasn't afraid nor was he enthralled by the man's speech. Rather, he felt something deep in his soul, something that stirred the foundations of his being. Looking at Mark Shaw, at Manhunter, was like looking into an ugly, broken mirror.

"Leviathan seeks to bring true balance and order," Mark Shaw continued. "We do not bow to the whims of the corrupt or the self-appointed heroes. We stand for a city where justice is blind, where no one is above the law, and where true equality and protection are provided to all. Gender inequality, world hunger, discrimination against minorities, sexualities, ethnicities–all of this is rooted from the corrupt leadership of our nations. Fascists and indifferent capitalists. In the coming days, you shall see us purge the greatest splurge of corruption in the world."

Just like that, the broadcast ended and returned to the regular news. An irritated expression crossed Vicki's expression. She was probably used to this. Sighing, she returned to her guest and pressed him on the exploitable infrastructure of Wayne Tech buildings. The older male stammered out an incoherent answer, too bewildered by the cut appearance of Leviathan to articulate himself fully.

Aaron sat in silence. 'What did I just witness?'

He paced around the house, deep in thought. He checked his phone and saw social media buzzing to life. It was an international broadcast so no one had any idea who, where, or what he was talking about precisely. It could be Gotham but it could also just as likely be Metropolis, Blüdhaven, Central City, or Star City. Aaron didn't particularly disagree with his statements on the cruel leadership in the world. It was true. In the past decade, mass starvation wasn't going down because of human kindness or responsible government, but because the Justice League had to step in. The incidents in Markovia weren't solved because the monarchy had suddenly decided to commit to its citizens. It was saved because the Justice League came. It was the same in Kahndaq. The Justice League of America stepped in and saved them from a spectre of some kind.

Aaron stroked his chin and sighed for the tenth time today. He glanced out the window. It wasn't even five, yet the sun had set and shadows overtook Gotham. The month of December shortened the days to a ridiculous degree and Aaron disliked looking out the window one second, seeing light, and then looking again and finding total darkness.

He heard a knock. It didn't come from the front door, however, his twitchy ears finding the source in his room. There was another light tap, coming directly from the window. Aaron cautiously approached the wall of glass but became elated when he saw the shape of the figure behind it. He swiftly unlocked it.
