Chapter 24 by crimsonbeans crimsonbeans

What's next?

A series of fortunate events

Jack watched Veronica walk ahead, her hurried steps echoing down the street as she moved through the dimly lit sidewalk. She looked around nervously but didn’t see him—he stayed in the shadows, keeping just far enough behind. It wasn’t hard to stay unseen; Veronica was too wrapped up in her thoughts, too haunted by the encounter with the Zhou sisters to notice anything. Either way, Jack wasn’t too worried about her noticing him—he was worried about who else might be watching.

The cool autumn air brushed against his skin as he kept his pace slow, eyes scanning every car, every alley and street corner. His mind flashed back to their last conversation in his apartment, when he'd suggested she should stay with him for a while. Veronica—no, heh, Nikki—had tried to put up a fight, briefly flashing that old, sharp edge of hers when she’d questioned why his place was safer than hers. He’d just smiled, letting her challenge roll off him like water on a duck’s back. He didn’t owe her an explanation, but he generously told her that, if the women came back, he'd be able to give them what they want and ensure her safety. She wouldn't even be a target.

The truth was, he had been preparing for a potential second break-in. No one would get in or out of his apartment without him knowing. Reluctantly, Nikki had eventually decided to trust him.

He watched her cross the street, her pace quickening. Jack knew Veronica wasn’t exactly a fan of being ****, let alone dependent on someone. But after the sisters’ visit, she apparently wasn’t about to risk being alone either. Fear had a way of stripping people down, reducing them to their rawest selves. It was that desperation, that need for protection, that Jack was cultivating in her, subtly driving her deeper into his orbit. She’d put up a front at first, but the moment he offered her sanctuary, she’d latched onto it. In a way, Nikki's unfortunate night had turned out to be very fortunate for Jack.

His phone buzzed in his pocket. Frowning, Jack pulled it out, keeping an eye on Veronica as she disappeared around the corner.

“Jack Dover,” he answered, keeping his voice low.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Dover. This is Lucia Baretti. I’m calling on behalf of Mr. Benestante, the owner of Nuvola Palace.”

Jack’s brow furrowed in surprise. Nuvola Palace? That was no ordinary venue. His grip tightened on the phone as Lucia’s smooth, professional voice continued.

“Mr. Benestante was impressed by your production work on the, eh, Urban Legends podcast. He’s interested in hiring you for a project at the estate, if you have the right skills. We need a highly skilled audio engineer to design and install an immersive sound system throughout the property. The job would require you to be on-site for an extended period of time, given the complexity of the installation. We’re hosting several high-profile events next year and need a state-of-the-art sound experience for our elite guests.”

Jack’s mind raced. This was a huge opportunity. The money would be nice, but more importantly, the job would require him to stay at the estate—a sprawling, highly secure property, away from the city. The perfect place to go underground, away from prying eyes. The timing couldn’t have been better.

He glanced toward the corner where Veronica had turned, making sure she wasn’t getting too far ahead. The job offered more than just a paycheck—it offered a venue to collect his girls, to keep them close. No more wondering if they were safe, no more distance between him and the experiments. If they were all living at the estate with him, he’d have full access to them, whenever he needed.

Lucia’s voice broke through his thoughts. “Hello..? Would you be interested, Mr. Dover? I can arrange a meeting with Mr. Benestante to discuss further details.”

Jack kept his voice cool, masking his excitement. “I could certainly set up your sound systems, but I’d need to bring my team along. If it's as complex as you say, we’ll need accommodations on-site.”

There was a slight pause on the other end. Jack could almost picture Lucia checking a mental list of what was possible. “That can be arranged, but you’ll need to meet with Mr. Benestante to finalize the details. He’s kept an open window in his schedule for Monday morning. Tomorrow. We're aware it's short notice, but—would you be available?”

Monday. That certainly was short notice. Perfect. It gave him just enough time to secure the flash drive’s contents and put his next move in motion, and he wouldn't have to wait around.

“I’m very busy, but I’ll make some time for him,” Jack said, casually. “Monday morning works.”

“Excellent,” Lucia replied. “We’ll see you then. I’ll send over the details. Have a good rest of your Sunday, Mr. Dover.”

The call ended, and Jack felt a surge of satisfaction course through him. This could be the solution to so many problems. He had the chance to isolate the girls, keep them all under his watchful eye, and conduct his experiments without interruption. If anything went wrong with the Zhou sisters or Samuel, he’d have a secure place to hide out while he figured out how to handle it.

Tucking his phone back into his pocket, Jack hurried to catch up with Veronica, his mind buzzing with the possibilities. He could already picture it—Veronica, Rachel, Sophie, Leah—all of them in one place, all under his control. The palace would become his own personal playground.

Veronica’s apartment building loomed in the distance, a modest high-rise nestled between more modern, glossy buildings. He watched as she reached the front entrance and fumbled with her keys. She glanced over her shoulder, her paranoia still evident in the way her eyes darted around, but she didn’t notice him. She disappeared inside, and Jack lingered outside, keeping his distance but scanning the street.

No one else had shown up, no sign of the sisters, no one suspicious. But that didn’t mean they weren’t out there. Jack’s instincts told him to stay vigilant. If the Zhou sisters wanted information, they wouldn’t just give up after one failed attempt.

He leaned against a lamppost, his gaze fixed on the building’s entrance. If they came for her tonight, he’d be ready. And if not? He’d still be one step ahead of them.

Minutes passed. He imagined Veronica packing, moving hurriedly between rooms. Jack smirked. She was still rattled, apparently scared enough to give up control. It wasn’t like her to beg, to crumble in front of him like she had earlier.

But that was the beauty of it. He had taken her, a woman who thrived on control, and made her dependent on him. She might have some flashes of defiance left, but those would only make his next steps sweeter. Once she was at his place—under his care—she’d learn what it meant to surrender fully.

Another ten minutes passed, and Veronica emerged from the building, lugging a small suitcase behind her. Jack straightened, stepping deeper into the shadows as she passed by, unaware of his watchful gaze.

He fell in behind her again, keeping to the darkness as she made her way back to his apartment. He’d let her think she was alone for now. Let her feel the fear creeping back in. Soon enough, she'd realize she was exactly where she needed to be.

Safe. In his hands.

As Jack trailed behind Veronica, his mind buzzed with anticipation and the weight of so many moving parts. He couldn’t shake the feeling that time was slipping away—that he needed to act, and fast. His mind wandered to Samuel’s flash drive. There were too many unknowns buried in its data, and Jack felt a rising impatience to finish dissecting it. He’d already worked deep into the night, cautiously navigating around security traps, but there was still more to uncover.

He pondered how he would keep Veronica busy. She was in a state of shock now, easy to manipulate, but also a potential distraction. He needed her out of his hair, keep her occupied while he worked, while also keeping her close. Maybe he’d come up with a task for her, something that would make her feel important. She was already scared enough that she’d cling to any purpose he gave her.

And there was the matter of his own carelessness. Jack mentally scolded himself, remembering the prototype of Samuel’s device that he’d rushed into using. He’d been so eager to try it out in the beginning that he hadn’t taken his usual precautions. Now, with everything at stake, he needed to make sure it wasn’t compromised before using it again—no malware, no backdoor access. It wouldn’t do to be careless now.

As he drifted deeper into thought, his phone buzzed in his pocket. A quick glance at Veronica’s back confirmed she was still ahead, oblivious to his presence. Curious, he pulled out his phone, seeing a few messages from Leah.

His pulse quickened. Leah, the shy-to-bubbly café girl who had been responding so well to his playlists. Maybe now he would find out what she had meant with "spicy" pictures, last time they spoke? Jack grinned to himself as he opened the messages.

Hey Jack :) I’ve been feeling amazing lately! You’re the reason I’ve been so confident... I just had to thank you. Remember those spicy pics I promised? Well, I thought a video would be even cooler ;)

Jack’s brow lifted. A video? He thumbed through the message, excitement building.

I filmed it this morning before the café opened. I wasn’t sure if I should send it. It’s a little... *risqué*, lol. But I listened to your playlist on my break, and it gave me the courage to just go for it. I hope you like it... Please let me know if you like it?

Jack could almost see her blushing through the text. His finger hovered over the video attachment, and for a moment, he glanced around to make sure he was still on Veronica's trail—and no one was watching. He pressed play.

The video opened with Leah smiling at the camera, her bright eyes twinkling with nervous excitement. She was in the café’s storage room, headphones on, presumably listening to his playlist. The camera was set on a shelf, and she took a step back, swaying gently to the unheard rhythm. Jack’s eyes widened as she began to dance, her movements slow, sensual, with just the right amount of hesitation to be both cute and alluring.

Leah cast a shy glance at the camera, and then, with a blush spreading across her face, she began stripping. Slowly. Sensually. A little nervously. Jack’s breath caught in his throat as her clothes fell to the floor, piece by piece. First her shirt, then her jeans, until she stood in just her underwear, swaying to the silent beat. His pulse raced as she reached for her bra clasp, hesitating for a split second before unclasping it, letting it slide down her shoulders.

For a tantalizing moment, she shook her bare tits at the camera, before turning around, bending over, and slowly pulling down her panties. Jack couldn't help but gasp as her puffy pussy came into view, lewdly peeking out from between her legs as she bent at the hips to guide her underwear off her ankles, not letting it touch the ground.

She threw her panties on one of the nearby boxes. Suddenly, Leah was fully naked, her body moving with increased confidence. Her firm breasts were incredible on their own—but Jack found his eyes glued on her smooth pussy whenever he could catch a glimpse. He happily noted she was completely hairless. Her outer lips perfectly hid her inner labia in an elegant, single fold, that ended in a cute fork at the top of her vulva. Trailing back down, a small divergence hinted at the opening of her vagina, as it faintly glistened with apparent excitement. She twirled, eyes closed, blushing deeply, but there was a proud, playful smile on her face. Jack could tell she was getting more comfortable, even enjoying herself. Then, she made eye contact with the camera one last time, blushing as she blew a kiss, and finally reached out to turn off the recording.

Jack blinked twice as the "replay" button appeared on screen, his heart pounding with satisfaction. Wow. Leah had fully embraced the charm that his playlist had suggested to her, and the results were nothing short of spectacular. She’d been nervous, but she’d pushed through, her trust in him and the subliminal need to show him her charms driving her forward.

His mind spun with the possibilities of how he could use this new development. Leah’s growing confidence, mixed with her need to please him, was exactly the kind of malleability he thrived on.

Jack smirked as he typed his response to Leah, keeping it brief but purposeful.

“Leah, you look incredible. I'm so proud of how far you've come, and the confidence you're showing is amazing. I'd love to catch up soon. Are you free to stop by my apartment after your shift tomorrow? Here's the address: ”

Satisfied with the balance of praise and suggestion, he hit send and attached his apartment's location, already imagining how their next meeting should go. A smile crept across his face as he pocketed his phone, eyes shifting back to Veronica’s retreating figure. There was no question—he was playing the long game now. His girls were going to have to come together. ... in more ways than one, Jack caught himself cheekily thinking. Soon, he’d have them all exactly where he wanted them. Under his watchful eyes.

For now, he kept those eyes on Veronica as she made her way back to his apartment. More than ever, Jack knew he had to balance his focus. Samuel’s drive, Leah’s progress, Nikki's sudden compliance—it was all coming together, but he couldn’t afford to get sloppy. Veronica was feeling fragile now, but he wasn't sure how she would respond when she'd inevitably recover from today's shock.

More importantly, he'd have to ensure the safety of all his girls. The Zhou's had found Veronica because of her public Facebook post, but it could be a matter of time before they approached the others. In the meantime, Rachel was likely still dealing with her own inner turmoil, and Sophie—she'd been responding well, but he hadn't checked in with her in a while. Leah's rapid progress was promising, but he knew he couldn't afford to leave anything to chance. The sisters' threat loomed too large to ignore, and Jack realized he needed to pull all his subjects closer, secure them just as he was doing with Veronica. He’d make time for them, soon, before the game slipped out of his control.

Enough to do. For now, Leah's video played over and over in his mind as he followed Veronica through the quiet streets, anticipation building with each step.
