Go straight to the men's section

At the mall, Sarah led the way to the men’s section of the departmental store. You both quickly browsed through the racks, picking out a few business wear options for you.

"You need to try these on," Sarah said, as she waved down a sales assistant for help. "Can you help us with sizing?"

The sales assistant turned to you with a polite smile. "What’s your size?"

"31," you replied.

The assistant’s brow furrowed for a moment before she nodded. "We use international sizing here—XXL, XL, L, M, S, or XS. I think 31 would be closer to a Medium."

She picked out a pair of trousers, handing them over for you to try. You made your way to the changing room, slipping on the pants. They were noticeably too loose around the waist.

"Sarah," you called, "I think I need a smaller size."

Sarah went to talk to the sales assistant idling at one corner playing with her phone. She noted on the request and disappear to one of the room. She returned with a measuring tape.
