Chapter 12 by Randodiscard Randodiscard

What's next?

Amelia suggests talking to Elliott

Amelia leaned in closer, both mischievous and serious at the same time. “Are you just going to leave it like that?”

“What do you mean?” May asked.

“Meet him again—tell him it's over if that's what you want. But make sure you're sure.”

There was a painful knot in May’s stomach. “I’ve already made a mess. Seeing him again could complicate things. More.”

Amelia’s lips curved into a knowing smile. “Or it might give you closure.”

“But—” May said. She gulped. “Won’t that just make things worse?”

Amelia raised an eyebrow. “Then I’ll be your backup. Like a chaperone! You clearly need supervision.”

May couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re not serious.”

Amelia leaned back. “I am serious! We go, you talk to Elliott. Decide what you want. And I’ll make sure you don’t do anything you regret. Unless you want to.”

May chewed her lip. “I can’t… I don’t even know what I’d say.”

“Simple,” Amelia said, shrugging. “You tell him what you just told me. That it was amazing, but that you’re married, and you need to figure out what you really want. Or, you go in and tell him it’s over. Whatever feels right.” She grinned, sensing her friend’s hesitation crumbling. “Let’s go! If you don’t, you’ll regret it.”

Before she could second-guess herself, May nodded. “Okay. But only to end things.”

“Of course, of course,” Amelia said with a sly smile. She grabbed her purse and stood up. There was no stopping her once she was set on a plan. May followed her friend out of the café and into the cool afternoon air. Amelia hailed a cab.

As they slid into the backseat, May’s pulse quickened. “Broadview Gallery,” she told the driver.

Amelia kissed her on the cheek. “You’re going to be fine, babes.”
