Katie says, “I knew you’d figure it out!”

“David was a bit slow on the uptake, Katie, but I’m not!” you say, savoring the deliciously pedantic nerd-girl voice you have as Claire. “If we’re being the oh-so-brainy little sisters, they need to become Jessica and David!”

“You’re always reminding people to RTFM, Claire,” says Katie. “Fortunately I have an effing manual for the ‘pens,’ and if you’re wearing a skinsuit of a woman of childbearing age, you can zap yourself with a combination of the ‘pens’ and make the skinsuit your real body, with your old body becoming a skinsuit in your uterus!”

You produce the cute little squeal you, Claire, occasionally make when you’re excited. “So we ‘give birth’ to Jessica and David skinsuits with our originals’ selves in them, and we’re the real little sisters and they’re the boyfriend and girlfriend?”

“Exactly!” says Katie, with that charming grin that’s made David consider cheating on Jessica with her, and for just a moment you waver in your determination to be Claire for life. “Zip them up, zap them with the brown ‘pen’, and they’re stuck as David and Jessica for life!”

“They won’t stand for that!” you say.

“He’ll do what you order him to do, she’ll do what I order her to do,” Katie says. “Really that’s an essential piece of the technology or magic behind the ‘pens’!” Katie pauses, then goes on, “She’ll miss the superb brain I’ve stolen, but being stunning blonde Jessica and having David — I’ve had a crush on him since puberty but I’m out of his league — will make her feel better about being a relatively stupid woman. He’ll be more difficult, but you just persist in telling him he’s David and you’re Claire: I’m pretty sure he’ll give in.”

“I so want us to be bridesmaids at their wedding!” you say, and are a little surprised that you entirely mean it, that you’re certain that you and the person you love most will be happier as genius-girl besties rather than David and Jessica!
