Chapter 4 by bejjinks bejjinks

Does Scott figure it out and what does he do about it?

A mansion, a motorcycle, a uniform, and food

Scott still didn't make the connection. He had forgotten about writing on his finger completely.

It was time to get ready for his night shift at the convenience store. The job didn't pay nearly enough to get him out on his own and he would have to wait until he finished community college before he could get a better job. He also hated the job. One of the many reasons he hated the job was the uniform. It was so uncomfortable, especially the shoes.

Scott remembered the pen then and thought this might be a good test. He grabbed his sneakers, a pair of comfortable shorts and a ratty t-shirt and wrote "uniform" on them. He put those clothes on but he brought his actual uniform with him in case his boss complained.

As he walked to work, he saw this nice house that was for sale. Scott didn't want a mansion because that would be too big for him but this house was a nice size for him and it came with a swimming pool and sauna. He walked up to the front door and wrote "mansion" just above the doorbell. He tried the door but it was still locked. Oh well. He kept walking to work.

At work, no one said anything about his lack of uniform. But if Scott said anything about how heavy something was, everyone reacted as if he was joking. "You think that's heavy? I bet you lift 300 regularly in your workouts."

Later, a customer drove up in a nice car. Scott went out and wrote "motorcycle" on the car. After a few minutes, a guy came out of the toilet and said, "I must have grabbed the wrong keys somehow. I don't ride a motorcycle." And the guy gave his keys to Scott for the lost and found.

The guy went out to where he had parked his car and began screaming that someone had stolen his car. He called the police and told them he must have forgotten his keys in the car when he went to the bathroom and someone stole the car. He and the cops looked right at the car and did not see the car. All they saw was a motorcycle. Scott kept his mouth shut and eventually, they all left.

Scott now knew the pen worked. He felt a little guilty about taking the man's car. He hadn't thought it through when he wrote on the car because he wasn't sure if the pen worked or not but now that he knew it worked, he decided he should be more careful to target only those who deserved it.

After his shift, Scott got in his motorcycle and drove to a nearby drive-thru for some food. As the server handed Scott his food, he wrote "food" on the cup and containers. Then he tried to pay for it but the server said, "You already paid for it." and they joked about how Scott must be so tired that he forgot he had already paid for it.

Taking food wasn't as big of an issue as taking someone's car.

Then Scott went home to sleep. A little after 8:00 a.m. he got a phone call. "It seems you forgot the keys to your mansion yesterday, Mr. Herczeg. Would you please come by and pick them up today?"

What happens next?
