Family visit

More than a year after the couple got married, Lauren's family was coming for a visit. David was surprised why this took so long. His own family had been regular visitors to their house, and they had spent holidays with his parents and siblings. But Lauren's family had taken a year to reach out.

This made some degree of sense to David. Lauren was extremely reluctant to talk about her family. He sensed some bad blood, so he didn't pry. What was truly strange was Lauren's intense panic when she told him.

"They'll be here in three days!" She yelled.

"That's great!" David said. "I'm looking forward to meeting them."

"You don't understand!" Lauren whined. "They're the worst! I didn't even invite them- my mom just told me her and my sister would be here this weekend!"

"Well, I know family can be difficult, but it's still family." David pointed out.

"They're the worst!" Lauren fumed. "You'll see, this will be a nightmare!"

David was baffled by this. Lauren normally was poised and confident, but something about her family made her a bit of wreck. Confused, he helped Lauren prepared the house for company as the weekend approached...
