“Hey, John! Earth to John!” his coworker Dan called out, snapping his fingers in front of John's face.
John blinked, coming back to reality. “Oh, sorry. Just got lost in thought.”
Dan chuckled, shaking his head. “You’ve been spaced out all morning, man. Everything okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, just... I had trouble sleeping last night, I guess,” John replied. John wasn't sure that was it, though. He felt weird like he was missing something obvious but still couldn't place it.
“Anything you want to talk about?”
John hesitated, unsure of how to put his jumbled thoughts into words. “Nah, it’s nothing. Just... you ever feel like you’re missing something right in front of you?”
Dan raised an eyebrow with a smirk. “Is this about a girl?"
"Yes...I mean, no..." John felt a spike in his pulse, his heart in his throat with no clue why.
Seeing John was feeling stressed he placed a hand on his shoulder, "How about we grab a beer after work?”
John nodded, grateful for the distraction. “Yeah, sounds good. Thanks, man.”
