Chapter 31 by Walrusdick Walrusdick

Simon says.....

Sign sealed delivered i'm your's

  • I wanted to post this was to let everyone know I have some IRL stuff going on at the moment - 3 surgeries that are going to put me out of commission for 6 weeks each. I am trying to get some chapters written up that I can release when I am having the surgerys, it should be easier during recovery because I won't have anything to do but write. But releases might be as consistent as i have been, but there are no plans to stop. This should be at least a 100-150 chapter story. Big thanks to those that sent me messages or gave encouragement to me. I am listening to your suggestions!
    ___

We stopped outside a fancy-carved wooden door. I looked at the elegant brass plaque, which read "Captain Joe Geomonty.".

"Are you ready to do this, Madison?" I asked.

"Yes, Matt, I am confident we can succeed in implementing your plan." She said it with a reassuring smile.

Madison, with a little nod, knocked on the door. We both heard a gruff voice yell out, "Come in!"

My first impression of Captain Geomonty was that he looked like Jay Jonah Jameson and had the presence of a dad meeting the first boyfriend to take his daughter out on a date, you know, the kind with guns and speeches.

"Madison, good to see you. I take it that this is the man you have been talking up as far as his AI program."

"Yes, sir, this is Mr. Cole. He used his AI to provide us with all the information on that cult in Belarus and was able to track their individual IP and MAC addresses. It has been invaluable to be able to piece this information together to make a case against these cult members." She finished

"Well, Mr. Cole, obviously we are interested in improving our cybercrime division and our ability to prosecute criminals, but the only question I have about this whole arrangement is you." He said this as he was giving me a hard look. "You'll have to forgive me for being cynical; it comes with the job, he said, smiling, noticing a set of very big and white but noticeably fake teeth. So  either you are looking to make a lot of money selling this AI to us, or you are looking at us hiring you and then you managing the system yourself, am I wrong?" He finished with one of his giant hands dwarfing the coffee cup he picked up to drink from.

"First of all, Captain Geomonty, please call me Matt; Mr. Cole was my father..." I started. "But you are not wrong; I would be thinking the same thing as you if someone offered to share something like my AI with your office. I currently have a partner who has been part of the development of this project. If you wanted to buy us out of it, I would have to discuss a price with her, but frankly, I don't think this office can afford us."
"What I would really like to do is be a consultant for your office with a modest salary so that I can continue to develop and improve the AI with real-world data. In return, you would receive free access to the AI for life. I will teach Dt. Madison how to use it, and she can then train anyone else in the department." I finished.

"Hmm...so you really care about improving its ability to help the public? It is a noble goal, but why wouldn't you just sell it to us or one of the three letter government agencies out there and just retire?" He is still looking for the motivation behind my offer.

"Well, to be fair, sir, that is my goal, but I don't think the two have to be mutually exclusive. I have a personal and moral stake to try and help people like my mother-in-law as these cyber criminals continue to become more adaptable and **** to take away everything people have worked their whole lives for. It is the reason I started this project, but I am a businessman too. It is extremely valuable to have an easy-to-use tool like this that can be rolled out to every agency once it is good enough. I want to make sure it fits that description and is sold to the right people before making my millions." I finished explaining, showing him that I do have monetary goals as well, but they are future plans, and my heart is where this program can do good now and get better in a real-world environment instead of my database.

He is still reflecting on what I said. He turns to Madison and says, "Mattie. What do you think of all this? You have a good sense of character, and you understand this stuff better than I do. Does Matt here seem like he is really in this to help people, or maybe just to try his little project out on us in case it flops?" He said. I tried not to flinch at the ongoing attacks on my character.

"From what I have seen, sir, Matt is very genuine in his desire to help the public and stop scammers from ruining people's lives; it's the reason I suggested this meeting in the first place, and I think we could really do a lot of good having Matt on the team." She finished "One more thing, sir, he did best me during our sparing session, so he can handle himself if he needs to." She finished smiling at me.

"You're serious?" Captin Geomany replied with eyebrows raised. "Is this true, Matt?" He inquired.

"Yes, sir, but only because I got lucky." I said in difference to Madison.

"He is being modest, sir; even though he is rusty, he was able to block all my attacks and keep me from counter attacking. He knows what he is doing." She said matter-of-factly.

"Well, I think that is enough to push me to accept you as a consultant. I can't have someone working for us who can't defend themselves, because I want you to be part of the process all the way up to and through arrest. Of course, just because I approve of you doesn't mean Uncle Sam will. You need to pass all the necessary background checks and agency tests to get the clearances you need. Since this is Maddie's baby, I am going to leave it to her to handle the project until you guys feel like you have results to show me." he finished.

"Thank you, sir! I won't let you down!" Madison says.

"Thank you so much, Captain. I promise we will show you real results—ones that bring in concrete convictions." I said.

We get our things together and get ready to leave. The captain stands up, dwarfing me in just about every dimension, and goes to shake my hand, I return the gesture. His oven mit hands engulf mine with a vice-like grip. He leans a little closer and says in a quiet but menacing voice, "If you hurt Maddie in any way that I hear of, you'll be sparing with me next time." Then, as quick as it happened, his hand was gone, and we were being shoed out the door.

I turned to Madison and said, "Great job, Madison; we did it. Now we have some things we need to get together before officially launching...

You wouldnt like me when i am angry.
