What's next?

Thursday Night

Kait got to the apartment right on schedule at 7 PM that evening and Todd was working on dinner, as usual. He’d texted her about the possibly of going out thinking she would probably shoot the idea down, but to his surprise, and mild disappointment, she seemed eager to go out again, even if it was to meet someone from work.

Kait showered quickly so they could eat and try to get to the bar around 8. Todd had some pasta ready as she finished changing into jeans and a comfortable top for the bar.

“So, who are we meeting at the bar, anyway,” she asked, still running a towel through her hair to dry it out from the shower. “You never said in the text.”

“Oh, it’s this guy Hunter.” Todd thought he saw Kait have a slight reaction to the name, but not overt enough to mention so he moved past it. “Yeah, I should probably warn you in advance, he’s kind of a lot.”

“Oh yeah? How so?”

“Well, he’s obnoxiously self-confident and boastful. And he, uh, tends to talk about his sex-life a lot.” He said with a chuckle on the end trying to soft walk how he really felt about Hunter’s character. He hoped the Hunter would be on slightly more professional behavior than normal if it was just them, but he wasn’t counting on it and figured he should have Kait at least somewhat prepared.

For her part, Kait paused for a second but then seemed to laugh it off. “So why are we meeting him again?” she asked with a sarcastic grin.

Todd explained the arrangement, and that even though he wasn’t thrilled, it was still going to be a huge deal for them. He hoped that he could make it work out with Hunter, as it seemed like the only way to secure the longer-term benefits from it. Kait could see the logic, but she also felt a tiny-bit disappointed. Like Todd, she chose to look on the bright side.

They finished eating and Todd cleaned up as Kait did the last few touches on getting ready, then they headed out to meet Hunter.

~Hunter~

“Another beer.” Hunter said to the bartender, who he had been checking out since he arrived. She was a 6 ½ at best, but she was a freak, Hunter could always tell. He figured she’d be a good fuck-doll for later that night, depending on how the rest of the evening shook out.

“Anything you want, babe.” She replied with an overtly flirtatious wink and smile as she poured another beer for him.

He waited for Todd and his supposedly hot girlfriend. He had to admit that the fat old gasbag Thornton had decent taste in chicks, but he thought he was probably exaggerating how cute she was. Not that it mattered that much for his ultimate objective.

When Thornton told him about the plan to split the account, he didn’t think it was good enough. The whole “double account manager” thing was just the starting point. He knew that if Todd quit before the commission was processed, he would get the whole thing and 100% of the future commissions as well. Why take half when you can have it all?

He figured that humiliating Todd was the quickest way to drive him out, and what better way to do that than by fucking his girlfriend and having it get around the office? Even if Todd was into it, and Hunter had banged more than enough wives and girlfriends to know that was a real possibility, he’d still be able to make it impossible to look his coworkers in the eye. He’d have to play it smart, of course. He didn’t need Todd running to HR if he pushed the wrong buttons too early. His best bet was to keep Todd thinking that they were pals until he had the right kind of leverage. It was only a matter of time.

Just as that thought was going through his mind, he looked up towards the door and saw Todd walking in with his petite brunette girlfriend by his side.“No fucking way!” He exclaimed as they walked towards him, and he was able to see them more clearly. He couldn’t believe his eyes, and even Hunter had to wonder to himself how he could possibly be so lucky?

“Kaity? How the fuck are you?”

~Todd & Kait~

Todd and Kait got to the bar a little after 8. Todd drove, as opposed to taking an Uber this time. He wasn’t interested in staying out that long and he figured driving would be a good excuse to keep it to just a couple of drinks.

As they walked in, Todd scanned quickly and saw Hunter sitting at the main bar chatting with an attractive red-headed bartender. He pointed over in his general direction and said, “He’s over here,” and they took a few more steps. Then he felt Kait freeze next to him and grab his hand tightly.

“No fucking way!” He heard Hunter say from halfway across the bar. “Kaity? How the fuck are you?”

For what felt like minutes to Todd, but was really only a few seconds, the three just stood there about 15 feet apart with the noise of the bar going on around them. Todd was trying to process what was going on, and Kait was still just standing like a deer caught in the headlights. Hunter then grabbed his beer off the bar and walked over to them.

“Kaity Sullivan. Holy fucking shit!” He said, giving her a hug as he reached them. Kait’s head barely reached the top of Hunter’s chest, and his huge arms enveloped her like she was a doll. She remained standing completely still, seemingly unable to move. After a moment, Hunter released her from the hug, his eyes looking her up and down. “Come on, let’s go grab a table.” He grabbed Todd’s hand and gave it a firm shake and smile and steered them an open table a few feet away.

“So, uh, you guys know each other?” Todd asked as they sat at the small round bar table. Kait slid her chair so she was close to Todd as she could get, so they were both roughly opposite of Hunter.

“College.” Hunter said.

Todd tiled his head slightly in confusion, “Really? I thought you went to Wisconsin?”

“Graduated from there. I started at MSU and transferred sophomore year after I hurt my knee.”

“Oh. Wow. Small world, I guess?” Todd replied. He turned his head to look at Kait, who still seemed to be stunned. “So what year was that for you?”

“What? Oh, uh, freshman also.” Kait said somewhat timidly. “We had a couple of intro classes together the first semester, I think. We also saw each other around the training facilities since we were both in team sports.”

“Yeah, we saw a lot of each other that year.” Hunter said with a smile. “So, what have you been up to the last, what, seven? Eight years?”

“Um, soccer mostly. After I graduated, I got a job here teaching at Roosevelt High and I’m an assistant on the girl’s team.”

“Nice. Your girl Kaity here was a real superstar.” He said addressing Todd. “She had incredible moves and stamina, she could just go all day.” He glanced at Kait and added, “Plus her heading and ball handling skills were amazing, best on the team by far as I recall.”

Todd chuckled and noticed that Kait was blushing and seemed at a loss for words. He was surprised that Hunter kept calling her “Kaity” as she always said she hated that nickname. It had been her dad’s pet name for her when she was little, and she didn’t like thinking about it. “ Yeah, I get to watch her practices sometimes, so I see how amazing she is. I wish I could have watched her games back then.” Todd said, not wanting to be outdone in complementing her.

“I’m going to go order some drinks.” Hunter said, “Beer Todd?” Who nodded back in the affirmative, “And for Kaity, margaritas, right?” Kait also nodded back, and Hunter stepped away to order the drinks.

“Are you okay?” Todd asked leaning in and asking softly, even though Hunter was likely out of earshot.

“Yeah. Yes. Just surprised is all, I haven’t thought about Hunter in a long time.”

“You seem a little tense, are you sure it’s okay? We can bolt if you want.”

“No, it’s fine. Like you said, he’s just kind of a loudmouth.” She said with a small laugh and smile trying to convey that she was good.

Hunter came back from ordering the drinks, and the three of them proceeded to chat for the next 90 minutes. Kait seemed to be relaxing more once she started to drink and regained her normal flow. They talked about how Kait and Todd met, and their various hobbies. Todd asked Hunter about how he ended up coming to RevTec. Hunter said he’d been working in the fitness industry as a personal trainer, and was trying to break into high-end sports performance training, but he needed more capital to hopefully open his own gym, so he figured he give sales a try and keep training as his side-business while he saved up.

“Ah come on, you guys are lightweights. We should be good for another few rounds!” Hunter teased as Todd and Kait were hedging about wanting to call it a night. He’d seemed very interested in getting them to drink the whole night. Todd kept himself to two beers so he could drive, but Kait ended up having three margaritas and was already very tipsy.

“No, we really need to get going.” Todd said, knowing that if he drank any more, they’d probably be stuck for another hour or would need to arrange an Uber to pick them up.

“Okay, I get it, you’re pussies.” Hunter said with a laugh. “Hey, I’m not sure if you guys have my cell, we should exchange numbers so next time we can coordinate even if one of us isn’t in the office."

“I’ve got it.” Said Todd, who was standing up and inching away from the table towards the exit.

“Cool. Here, Kaity, let me put my number in your phone.” Hunter swiftly gabbed Kait’s phone, which she had open just then, keyed in his number and sent himself a quick message.

“Hey!” She said as he did it, but in a half-drunk and laughing way.

“I think you needed the help, since I’m not sure I’d trust your typing right now.” Hunter mimicked her drunken “I’m offended” posture as he handed the phone back.

“Ugh, you jerk.” Was the best retort she could come up with in her current state.

Finally, Todd was able to pry them away and he put his arm around Kait as they walked out of the bar. Partially to steady her as they walked, and partially because he felt the need to act like her boyfriend.

Hunter watched them walk away, his eyes lingering on Kait’s backside as they left. He then went back over to the main bar and resumed hitting on the bartender. He hung out until the bar closed at midnight, then went back to her place and fucked her brains out until the sun was starting to come up.
