Confronted by his father

John steeled himself for the conversation to come, as he walked down the hall he heard his father call from the kitchen "In here babe", John took a deep breath as he walked into the kitchen seeing his father sat at the dining room table he stood in the doorway like a scolded kid. His father looked up, John felt relief as he saw his fathers face was etched with concern rather than anger, "where were you last night? You had me worried" his father asked his voice tinged with worry.

John took a deep breath obviously he couldn't tell his dad the truth, given that he had cheated on him, so he began his rehearsed lie, "Oh I stayed at Becca's." John began, Becca being a friend of his mothers that John knew, "I had visited and then time got away from us so I stayed the night, I would have called but I left my phone" That was actually the truth in John's haste he actually had left his (or well his mothers) phone in the house.

John's father studied him briefly, John's heart was pounding in his chest as he stood there terrified that his father would call him on his lies, thankfully he simply stood up and said "alright fair enough" His father having no reason to distrust his wife, however before he left his father kissed his cheek and whispered into his ear "You know the rule, I'll see you tonight". John's heart nearly stopped beating he had no idea what his father was talking about, what rule what did that mean, John knew there was only one person who could answer that question for him and it was someone he needed to apologise to anyway, John left the kitchen and made his way to his old bedroom, he knocked gently, "Yeah" his mother called out, "It's me, can I come in?" John called out, his mother gave John the go ahead and he opened the door and walked in.
