What's next?

We need a vacation

Chloe returned to the apartment, flopped down on the couch and groaned, "why do we have to work exactly?"

Amy sighed sympathized, "I could really use a break."

David realized he had paid very little attention to the jobs his harem members had. Sure he was supported by the Survivor's Benefit, and Sarah received a stipend as his "guide". He knew the other girls came and went, but usually there was something more interesting going on that pushed work talk aside.

Vicky had been listening. She also couldn't sympathize, having never exactly had a job. She went straight from being a naive teenager to David's harem to social media star. She did cautiously interject, "well..." and when the others turned suspiciously toward her, she explained, "the videos have been making a lot of money and you're all so important to them." She looked around the group, "I'd be nowhere if it wasn't for all of you."

The suspicion softened somewhat but also turned to confusion. She got to the point, "maybe we should take a vacation," she turned to Sarah, "all of us." She removed the last of suspicion with, "on me."

The crowd was suddenly very pro-Vicky. She took the chance to ask, "we can probably get flights again, right?"

"Yeah, I think there are a few more available now," Jordan answered.

Vicky thought for a few seconds. She muttered to herself, "there's the ad revenue... the product placement account... the Patreon... twelve of us... yeah it should be no problem." She finished whatever mental arithmetic she had been doing, "how about Hawaii?"

The group was suddenly extremely pro-Vicky. Excitement built as plans started to develop.

When he had a moment with Sarah, David asked, "what did Vicky mean we can 'get flights again'?"

She settled in to explain the world to David yet again, "most pilots were men. Airplane mechanics and stuff too. After the virus, there was almost nobody left to make the planes go. It took them a while to train more people for jobs like that. Everything is still getting back to normal."

"Oh," David replied, starting to understand.

Sarah continued, "a girl at The Beaver told me about a guy she knew who survived. He had been a truck driver. After the going on Fortiphine, he was more interested in," by way of explanation, she gestured at David's crotch.

He opened his mouth to object, but thought about it, shrugged, and nodded.

"The company he worked for begged him to come back. They ended up just throwing money at him until he started coming in and at least teaching some women how to hook up trailers and stuff."

David pondered, "I guess you found somebody to do my job easily enough?"

Sarah chuckled and apologetically offered, "it took us a while to find somebody to organize the secret santa."

He sighed.

[Jaegarblk challenged me to show "more of how the world as a whole functions". This probably isn't what he was thinking, but I happened to see the comment right before getting on a plane, so sending the group on vacation came to mind. Somehow this whole story fell together incredibly easily... maybe I need the vacation.]
