Chapter 7
by Tyff
Who sent her a text?
Carla
Claire dried off her hands and pulled out her phone to have her emotions switch from joy and intrigue to annoyance and disinterest. Claire sent the text:
Where were you? You missed the movie and forgot to bring us popcorn and a drink.
In her annoyed state she texted back to Carla:
I saw the movie but I also that you and Travis were a bit preoccupied so I sat in a different row as to not bother you. Are you ready to go?
Not even a minute late she got a reply:
Actually, we already left. I took Travis with me since we thought you had gotten a ride home and ditched us. Sorry I didn’t check sooner, but technically we thought you left already.
Claire was fuming at this point and this was one of the worst things her sister had ever done. Leaving her stranded at the movies to go play with her boy toy was a new low for Carla. Claire hated that her sister pulled the twin card only when it was convenient for her, but was quick to discard it when Claire was no longer useful. Claire sat on the bench outside the restroom and placed her hands over her face in frustration. “I’m not going out with you ever again, Carla. Consider this my resignation…” Claire said louder that she realized but she was exhausted and rightfully furious.
Claire was in her emotions when she felt a tap on her shoulder as she removed her hands to see her fair maiden sitting next to her. Claire wiped the angry tears from her eyes as the look of concern and care was present on Veronica’s soft face. “I overheard you a bit there. Did this Carla person stand you up?” Claire chuckled and felt the anger flowing out of her as the grip of her maiden was the perfect panacea for the poison that was her malicious twin, Carla.
“My sweet maiden, you have impeccable timing when I just feel like I am about to fall into the precipice. Carla is but a heartless succubus that also happens to be my twin. She has decided that my usefulness was no longer needed this evening and thus left me stranded,” Claire brought back her knightly bravado to bring a smile back to Veronica’s face. She interlaced her fingers into Veronica’s hand as she laid her head on her maiden’s soft shoulder. She smelled like lavender and the sweetest meadow where Claire could slumber.
“Would thou like a ride in my carriage to your humble abode?” Veronica asked her endearing knight. “My shift ended about five minutes ago and we can continue our conversation if you are open to it, my knight.”
Does she take Veronica’s offer?
