She requests the maiden’s number

“Well, that’s a drag…I’m sorry, my sweet knight. It seems I must return to my post and continue to earn more schillings to maintain my livelihood. I do hope that I can see you again,” Veronica said with her smile fading off her face as she led them out of the projector room. Veronica had not let go of Claire’s hand as Claire was feeling just as sad having this fleeting moment not last just a bit longer. Claire knew what she needed to do as the knight that would fight a thousand trolls for her maiden and she summed up the courage to ask the most important question of the evening.

“My fair maiden, may I borrow your carrier pigeon so that I may bestow my numbers upon it. I wish to continue our conversation and set a time for meet when you are not having to return to your post,” Claire said confidently and with a much more pronounced accent. Veronica smiled returned immediately and she giggled while she handed the phone over to her. Claire entered the number into her phone and felt joy to know that this conversation was just the first brick on their pathway to tomorrow.

Claire even left her contact name as “Claire the Unfathomable” as Veronica let out a laugh even louder upon reading it and sent a text over. “Call me Fair Maiden Veronica, my dear knight. Once my shift had concluded I will send a pigeon your way so that we can resume our conversation.” They shook each other’s hand as Veronica said in normal voice, “I did enjoy our conversation and I’m sorry it ended so soon.” She pushed her bangs out of her right eye as she smiled and said, “I’ll talk with you very soon, I promise.”

Claire took a mental image of that before deciding to actually head to the theater. The movie had already started and she could see that Carla and Travis were not even watching it. Both were too focused on exchanging saliva with one another and feeling each other up. Claire decided to sit a few rows back to avoid them altogether. Claire was just repeating the events of her fateful encounter with Veronica and was surprised when the movie seemed to be almost finished. She decided to get out first and hit the restroom before the rush of people caused a line.

She went into a stall and peeked at her phone hoping for a message from Veronica but she remembered that she’s working so she can’t have her phone out. Claire would be lying if she didn’t just want to send a text but she didn’t even know where to start. She barely texted her own family so texting a new acquaintance seemed out of her depths. She cleaned herself up and got her pants up while exiting the stall. Her phone chimed as she was washing her hand and she was excited that Veronica had decided to text her first.
