Chapter 11
by
TheUnfathomable
A dwarf, an elf, and a priest walk into a bar, carrying a man.
Yeah, I don't have a good punchline for this one
The dwarf led us into the tavern. At first, me and the elf were both carrying Oliver, but that was a bit awkward due to me being quite a few inches taller at the least, so I just started carrying him by myself by the time we got there. The elf kept looking at me with an expression I couldn't quite read, and I don't want to rely on God's Eye in order to read people. After all, that was my specialty back on Earth.
As soon as we entered, the barkeep looked up and saw me carrying Oliver, though his left side was to me so he couldn't see the new arm clearly. The barkeep sighed and shook his head before addressing me, "His room is the second on the left, I don't know how he would have gotten drunk somewhere else, but it isn't the first time."
I gave the dwarf a look, who shook his head. I then simply nodded to the barkeep and took him to his room. While situating him, I took a moment to look at my newest pop-up.
Achievement Unlocked
Fighting Against Fate
Perform an action that greatly changes the fate of a key character, and therefore the world at whole.
Reward: Skill: Gaze into Fate (active) (divine): Allows the user to look into what the future of the target would have been if the user had not been brought to this world. This fate includes the emergence of the hero's, but not any form of domino effect caused by the user's actions or existence. Consumes 10 mana/second. (this skill is treated as a spell for the sake of bonuses)
This achievement intrigued me. It was clearly speaking of Oliver; his arm being fixed must majorly change his life, understandably. However, this meant that Millana's fate was not greatly changed by my rescue, which means that someone else would have done it, or that she was still in danger. I shrugged to myself before leaving the room and closing the door behind me. It wasn't my problem, and I didn't have the time to investigate more.
As I returned to the main area of the tavern, the dwarf waved me over to a booth in a corner. I approached and took a seat across from the two, who were sitting next to each other. "Well then, it is my duty to spread the word of Moged-Ruun, what is it you seek to know?"
The elf looked somewhat angry before the dwarf held up his hand to stop her. "How did Yee 'eal the boy's arm?"
I looked between them for a moment before responding, "It was a simple spell, to be fully honest I don't understand why it's impressive."
The dwarf looked at me quizzically before the elf gave a whisper shout at me, "The blade that took his arm was cursed! Not a single healing spell has worked for the last year!" The dwarf tried to interrupt her, but she continued. "I know your type, you zealots love to hold things over people, so go ahead and preach about how powerful your god has made you, and tell us what you want."
I gave a humored chuckle before responding in a light tone, "Everyone seems to assume the worst, yet this is supposed to be a world of light. Regardless, I think I understand why my magic worked." I paused to allow them to speak, but they both remained silent. "The technical truth is that I did not heal his arm, though the difference is minute."
The dwarf scrunched his nose in confusion, "I saw the boy, 'is arm is back, what is 'at if not 'ealin?"
"By technicality, I **** his body to grow a new arm, thus why the experience was so painful."
The dwarf contemplated for a second, while the elf looked at me shocked. "you're telling me that you can make people grow new limbs? What tier of priest are you?"
"II" I responded flatly. They both returned a dumbfounded stare. "Though the answer as to why I have such a spell, is that it coincides with my god's domain." The dwarf tilted his head for a bit, before nodding slowly.
Just then, another person walked into the tavern. My back was to the door, so I could not see them, but I heard them approaching our table after a second. When they got near, I turned to see a young woman, probably 19-20, in a worn wizard's hat and robes that were far too big for her. The robe dragged along the ground, her arms could not be seen in the sleeves, and the hat drooped to occasionally cover her face.
She went up to the table, and leaned over it while looking at the dwarf, "Hey guys! Did you hear? There's some weird priest in town talking about a new god! Can you believe it? Some people are saying they even saw him get out of Millana Normn's carriage! Can you-" Near the end of hear speech, she became aware that the two of her companions had been looking at something else, and turned to her left to see me.
She looked at me for a few moments before a look of recognition dawned on her face. I chuckled and nodded towards her, "Greetings, I am Mathew Kiegan, follower of Moged-Ruun."
A look of pure excitement and giddiness covered her face, and the started almost vibrating with energy. '*sigh*, what have I gotten myself into?'
What becomes of this adventuring party?
