Leaf vs. Donkey Kong

The beast reached the top of the building long before Min-min, the blonde catching up thirty seconds later. She expected to confront some dastardly villain, a monster who broke onto the island and was now intent on attacking competitors. Instead, now able to get a good look at him, she came face to face with a world famous fighter: Donkey Kong!

The great ape had let Leaf down and was getting ready for a match. The Pokémon trainer, while clearly annoyed, was not in the same state of distress she’d been in a few moments ago.

“Y’know, you could have just challenged me down there,” Leaf told her competitor, shaking her head while picking out the Pokémon she would lead with. Donkey Kong just laughed in response.

“Hey, uhhh, Leaf,” Min-min interjected, sliding over to her friend. “Are you sure about this? Donkey Kong is, like, really good. He’s one of the best on the island! Are you sure you wanna-“

“Relax, girl, it’ll be fine!” Leaf reassured her. “I told you, I’m on top of the world right now! Besides, if I avoid stiff competition, how will I ever improve!”

Finding Leaf’s logic to be sound, Min-min stepped back and allowed the fight to progress. A R.O.B. had helpfully appeared to act as a referee. Squaring up on either side of the roof, the two competitors waited for the countdown!

"kzzt! 3... 2... 1... GO! kzzt!"

Despite her confidence, Leaf did not get off to a very good start. Sending out Squirtle, the small Pokemon was immediately overwhelmed by Donkey Kong's offense. The poor dude could not land a single combo, getting batted around stage by the laughing ape. It was not long before the turtle was thrown off stage.

One stock down.

Undeterred, Leaf sent out her next Pokemon. The grass type was able to fair a bit better. Donkey Kong had trouble getting past the range Ivysaur's vines provided, and he was able to rack up a ton of damage.

However, it all came crashing down when Ivysaur threw his opponent off stage. The still overconfident Leaf ordered her Pokemon to chase him. This was Donkey Kong, though, and he easily dodged Ivysaur's attack before responding with a devastating spike.

Two stocks down.

Leaf's spirits were definitely wavering, worsened by Donkey Kong's demeanor. He had been taunting his opponent at every opportunity. Dancing around stage, laughing, and signalling with his hands exactly what he planned to do once he'd defeated the teen girl.

Still, Leaf refused to let herself be intimidated. Sending out Charizard, she was determined to turn this around and claim victory.
