Chapter 8 by Trom1806 Trom1806

So where do you decide to go now?

A visit to the old woman-healer named Meribela.

You walk through the houses of the villagers, mentally cursing: “That stinking asshole Jacob! I should have beaten him after I learned useful information! This fucker... He made me kiss the head of his dick! And he slapped his big dick on my cheeks! Bastard! Perhaps I should take **** on him... After completing my current task..."

The humiliating memories of the shockingly shameful events that took place will remain in your mind for a long time. Perhaps for your entire life.

However, now you are trying to abstract yourself from it.

You must concentrate on your task. You must continue to investigate and prepare for the hunt.

What can help you?

A visit to another local resident who has something useful to tell.

Or this local may give you things that can make your hunt for the beast easier.

An old woman-healer named Meribela.

If you manage to learn something useful or get healing potions, then your visit to her house will not be in vain.

You walk briskly in the direction of her house. You need to move to the northern part of the village.

It didn't take you long to find this building.

So, in front of you is an old dilapidated wooden house, the walls of which are made of pine logs.

The fence is broken in many places.

You think: “Probably this old human woman has no relatives who could help her with household matters.”

You go to the door and knock loudly and long.

You think: “I hope Meribela is not too old and that she is not deaf.”

After about a minute, you hear the sound of shuffling footsteps. Someone approaches the door from inside the house.

A woman’s trembling and lisping old voice: "Ohh... Ohhh... My bones hurt... Who came? Is it you Rory again? Did you get hurt again?"

You answer: “No. I'm Raul the Wolfkiller. I'm a famous hunter. The headman of your village hired me to kill a wolf that is attacking the inhabitants of your village. I wanted to talk to a woman named Meribela. I need any useful information and any other help for a successful hunt for the beast.”

The door creaks open and you see a slightly hunched old woman, who is dressed in a worn, long greenish woolen dress and an old fur shawl. Her long gray hair and her wrinkled face suggest that she is probably around 60 years old (or even a little older). The look of dull gray eyes examines you.

Then she goes into the interior of the house, telling you: “Well... You've come to the right place... Meribela it's me... Close the door tight. My bones hurt because of the cold.”

You go inside the house and close the door behind you.

Inside the house, the furnishings look poor and modest. There is little furniture (a couple of dilapidated wooden tables, which are littered with bundles of dried herbs, small clay vessels and dilapidated parchment scrolls; a couple of chairs and a bed). There is also a source of heat - a fire in the hearth; this fire heats a cauldron with some kind of bubbling liquid.

Meribela sits on the bed and looks at the cauldron. In her hands you see a mortar and pestle. She slowly crushes some herbs in a mortar.

You move the chair closer and you sit down on the chair.

You then show the old woman-healer a small piece of old thick parchment that Jacob gave you. This piece of parchment bears a strange symbol.

This sign looks like a triangle with a vertical line in the center.

Jacob saw such signs on the bodies of the victims of the beast.

You say: “Do you have any idea what the meaning of such signs is? I know that similar symbols were on the corpses of some of the beast's victims."

The old woman calmly looks at the piece of parchment.

She says, “That rude Jacob has already tried to tell me his stories about something like this. I tried to explain to him... But is it possible to explain anything to such a rude and self-confident guy if he convinced himself of something? His chatter and impudence really tired me. As for the essence of your question... I will also answer: it is not at all necessary to attach importance to the marks of claws and teeth on the flesh. The combination of these traces may resemble something like symbols or letters... But this is just a quirk of the imagination. There’s no need to invent all sorts of nonsense.”

You ask: “Have you really not noticed any strangeness in the events? Which are related to the attacks on the village?”

Meribela coughs slightly and shivers from the cold.

Then she says: “These are all very tragic, sad events... It saddens me to even remember... I feel sorry for people... The wolf killed the immediate family of many of the residents.... This is a great grief... Are you wondering what strange things I noticed? Some of the villagers saw one thing, while others saw something else... There is a reasonable explanation for this. I can say what I think - the village is being attacked not by one rabid wolf, but by a large pack of wolves led by a ferocious leader wolf. That’s why the number of victims is so high.”

You ponder the words of the old healer.

There is logic in these words. A large number of victims, different directions of attacks, different appearance of the beasts that attacked. You will probably actually have to kill not just one wolf, but many wolves.

But that doesn't scare you.

You have killed many wolves.

You are Raul the Wolfkiller.

Then you ask the question: “What about the fact that some of the locals describe seeing a large, black-furred, wolf-like monster that can walk on its hind legs?”

The old woman-healer says: “I don’t know. I haven't seen anything like it. Perhaps this is the testimony of someone who was drunk and talking all sorts of nonsense. Another option: this is evidence of someone who saw some other animal. Not a wolf. I can only guess."

You sigh.

Your situation is not developing very well in terms of obtaining useful information.

Then you decide to talk about something else.

You ask the old medicine woman: “Do you have any potions that will help me hunt beasts more successfully?”

Meribela slowly gets out of bed, groaning.

He goes to his desk and looks for something. The search takes approximately 10 minutes.

You wait patiently.

Finally, the old woman approaches you.

In her hand you see a glass bottle with a dark greenish liquid.

She says: “Most of my potions and healing infusions are weak remedies. Which can facilitate the healing of only small wounds or minor injuries. But I made this potion for a long time... I carefully weighed the ingredients and planned the concentration of the substances... This is the best thing I have been able to do in the last couple of years. I wanted to sell this potion in the city. But you probably need this potion more. After all, you want to free our village from the threat of attacks by beasts. Take it. This potion increases the reaction speed and level of regeneration of the body. Moreover, the potion lasts about a day. It’s better to drink this potion if you go hunting for beasts and expect the beasts to attack soon.”

You take a dark greenish bottle of liquid.

You then thank Meribela and bid her farewell.

You leave the house of the old healer-woman.

So where do you go now? Isn't it time to start hunting?
