THE BOYS!

It is finally the weekend, and the boys are meeting together for a game night. They usually play video games, but after suffering multiple losing streaks, someone suggested a board game night to help their mental.

After meeting up and eating dinner, this friend group goes back to one of their houses for board games. Well, that was the original plan until one of them speaks out first when they’re together in the living room.

“How did no one bring a board game to game night?”

“I thought Thomas would bring them.”

“I had to bring the drinks! Someone else was supposed to bring the board games.” the bearded friend shouts in response.

“But you are the one that suggested this, you’re supposed to have the games you insisted on.”

“I mentioned that we should take a break from video games and maybe play board games instead. Nothing else. No one mentioned that I was the one to bring board games. I thought someone else was the designated one to bring them,” Thomas shouts at the other two.

“And Yonah didn’t bring anything! You’re still in work clothes.” Thomas points to the friend wearing glasses.

“Traffic was a pain. I couldn’t go home AND make it in time for dinner, so I chose to get here on time, unlike him.” Yonah points his finger at the original speaker of this conversation.

“Look….” the big friend in the blue shirt utters out with his hands up in a gesture of defense.

“Joel is always late, that's expected of him at this point.” Thomas says in response.

The three guys sit around the living room, realizing the mistake they made in planning this night. They all sit around and enter a state of contemplation of whether or not they should just give up on board game night and go back to their losing streaks. Two more friends walk into the living room from the hallway unbeknownst of the current situation.

“What’d we miss?”

“We don’t have any games for game night.”

“And you don’t have any here?”

“My family doesn’t usually play board games, but we can check around the house. If we had some, they would probably be in the attic.”

One of the guys who just entered the room and marches into the hallway shouting, “Is the attic ladder in the hallway?!”

“Yes Ashton, it's the little lever right there.” Joel says pointing to a hatch in the ceiling. Ashton reaches up and pulls on the lever to reveal a ton of dust that emerges from the hatch and descends into the hallway. They step away as the dust cloud slowly clears and shows the darkness of the attic.

“YO! Seth, get over here, you’re smaller than me, you can fit.” Ashton says to the last friend in the group. Seth lets out a large sigh, but compiles and walks over to Ashton by the ladder. He stands there and looks up into the dark attic.

“You know I have asthma, right?”

“Just hold your breath and you'll be fine.” Ashton says with a fake smile and a slap on Seth’s back.

“Move out the way,” Seth grumbles out as he ascends into the attic.

He climbs the ladder and turns on his phone flashlight to look around in the darkness. Boxes of various sizes are stacked all over the place, along with an incomplete mannequin.

“Joel…why is there the bottom half of a mannequin in here?”

“Oh, uhhhhhhh, we needed it for drama one time, and I kept it since then.”

“Man, throw that shit away.”

Yonah, Joel and Thomas sit there and watch Seth scan around the attic. After another minute of searching, Seth speaks out.

“What’s this? Uh, I think I found it,” Seth talks into the void while the sound of a cardboard box is heard sliding around. The attention of everyone then turns to Seth in anticipation of what he found.

“Here, grab this.” Seth pulls out a dusty box which has faded text on the side reading out Games.

“Ah, perfect!”

“Lemme see. Lemme see.”

The box is placed down in the living room and all the guys open the box to look inside.

“These games look ancient.”

“Some of them look damaged.”

“You have a chest set with only pawns, really?”

“Why is there a bite mark taken out of this one?”

“Oh, that’s because of my brother.”

“Your brother ate part of this game, what the fuck?”

“Yeah, he’s weird.”

After rummaging through the box, Thomas yells out, “Here’s one!”

From the bottom of the box, he pulls out a game which looks to be in much better condition than the others. No bite marks on this one.
