Got a date!
How does the day go waiting for Quinn?
Lily rose bright and early the next morning, starting off her day with a smoothie and a workout. She hated running in the cold so she stuck with her usual mix of calisthenics and yoga. By the time she made it to JP’s Teddy was already there nursing a cup of coffee. He brightened as Lily walked in “Hey girrrrrl how you doing bitch?” Teddy looked exhausted, but Lily wasn’t surprised as he’d probably been fucking Tyler till dawn. She gave him a hug and went to make her own coffee “Doing good Teddy, doing pretty good… thanks for the pics yesterday, nearly asked to come join” Teddy chuckled “Oooo she feisty this morning, careful Lily or I might think you’re out to steal my mans.”
Lily feigned shock “who me? I would never, unless you were also there and wanted to share that is” ducking as Teddy playfully threw a roll of paper towels at her. “I’ll take it under advisement you crazy sloot, now it’s your turn to tell me what you did last night mmkay?” Lily finished making herself a latte as she walked through the very disappointing encounter with Kyle and subsequent video chat with Quinn. Sipping the steaming drink Teddy looked at her thoughtfully “Lils real talk for a sec, careful catching feelings for a girl like Quinn. She’s left a trail of broken hearts up and down the eastern seaboard. Just saying- keep the options open right?” Lily nodded, knowing there was more than a kernel of truth in it. She definitely felt something towards Quinn, and her gut said Quinn felt something back, but she had only known the woman a couple days.
The pair hung around serving the slow but steady stream of customers. As usual, most of the day was spent either idly chatting, making playlists, or scrolling through social media. Around noon the door jingled, and Lily burst out into a huge smile and rushed the woman for a hug. Her cousin Cassie was finally back from her trip to Florida to visit her parents.
A lithe and willowy blonde a good few inches taller than her, Cassie was gorgeous. She taught yoga and dance at a local studio; her body was a fine-tuned instrument that drove men wild. They started off with the usual pleasantries- yes Cassie’s trip was good, she and George gone to visit her parents in Florida and was already missing the weather- yes work was good, she’d enjoyed the break but was eager to get back to regular life etc etc. Lily was working on Cassie’s favorite chai latte when her cousin leaned over the counter and yanked her beanie off “SHUT UP ohmygod Lily your hair! I love itttttt! I leave for like a minute and you do this while I’m gone! Girl ohmygod when did you do this?”.
Lily smiled “Been a pretty wild two weeks Cass, I’ll tell you all about it next time we hang out.” Cassie pouted “Lilzzzzz c’mon you know I can’t wait- what are you doing tonight? We can drink wine and you can tell me all about your crazy times without me.” Lily blushed and hung her head “I uh, can’t tonight C, I uh, I kinda have a date.” Cassie’s jaw dropped, seemingly noticing the eyebrow slit and piecing it together with the undercut “OH. Oh oh ok uh yeah ok um yes a date. That is awesome. Um well are you free tomorrow night?” Lily couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt any sort of awkward around her cousin, Cassie was her best friend in the world, and she told her everything. “Of course C, you wanna come over to mine and I’ll make tofu bowls?” Cassie nodded, trying not to look relieved when her phone rang “Oh hi babe, yeah I was just getting a coffee from Lily, I’ll be out in a sec you want one?.... Ok, yeah will do, be there in a sec.” Hanging up, Cassie looked back at Lily “George says hi, we’re grabbing lunch with his folks- I’ll text you later and might have to rain check din, love you!” Lily barely had time to respond as Cassie left in a hurry, looking over at Teddy who’d caught the whole interaction.
Teddy shrugged “Your cuz might be a teensy bit of a homophobe Lils, it’s kinda part and parcel with being out. Not everyone’s big fans of people like us.” His words hung heavily in Lily’s mind (people like us) she’d barely thought of the social aspects of her newfound sexuality, caught up in the sheer carnal pleasure of Quinn’s body. (People like us) Was Cassie homophobic? There was no way, Lily had never imagined Cassie might be uncomfortable with queer people, but then again they’d never really discussed it. Her mood soured; Lily went back to scrolling on her phone as the café emptied out after lunch. It was getting close to Thanksgiving and a lot of the usual clientele were out of town with family.
Any more surprise guests?
