Chapter 35

What's next?

Jack has a special day planned

Jack woke up planning on the best time with Miranda. They both knew their time together was likely shortening and even if they somehow managed to survive the war, it might not ever be the same again.

So Jack reserved a table at the best sushi place in the Citadel, one that Miranda had talked about often. She had an outfit picked out and everything.

Unfortunately as she was getting changed while Miranda was still sleeping, she got a message on her terminal.

“Dear Miss Jacqueline Nought,

We apologize on behalf of Ryuusei Sushi Restaurant and Bar. But we will be cancelling your reservation and will not be able to accommodate any reservations until further notice. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and hope we can serve you soon.

Sincerely,

Ito Okudero

Restaurant Manager”

Jack stared at the message in surprise. “Goddammit,” Jack sighed.

Jack looked over at Miranda still asleep from the long day they had. Jack then got an idea. She was never any good at cooking, but she did know one dish that she learned from the facility she was kept at. It helped her get through her most depressing days.

As Jack cooked, Miranda stirred awake. She smelled the delicious smell coming from the kitchen and snuck down. She snuck behind Jack and wrapped her arms around her back. “Hmmm…” Jack moaned. “Don’t distract me from my cooking. I need to focus.”

“Well… I guess you’ll have to work on not getting distracted,” Miranda whispered as she nibbled Jack’s ear.

“Oh my God…” Jack moaned.

Miranda continued to whisper as Jack finished up. Jack served the dish which was a salisbury steak and mushroom with mashed potatoes. “That looks delicious,” Miranda said. “What’s the occasion?”

“Cherishing the moment we have left together,” Jack said. “And trying to do something nice for you.”

Miranda smiled. “Well, I love it. And this food is delicious.”

“I’m glad I was able to do something nice,” Jack said. “This was actually the meal I made when I was in that prison education hellhole. You know, the one Cerberus put me in. It was the one time kid’s didn’t run away from me.”

Miranda rested her hand on Jack’s. “You’ve come a long way since then,” Miranda said. “And you’ve become… a very important woman in my life. No matter what happens. I want you to know I love you.”

“I love you too, cheerleader,” Jack said as she leaned in for a kiss.
