With Shepard’s help, they easily were able to fight their way out of the facility. After some swearing at Joker for his wise cracks, Jack settled. They arrived at the Citadel safely. Jack entered an apartment she rented. Almost immediately Jack was bombarded by a hug. “Miri…” Jack said. “I’m okay.”
“Shut up,” Miranda said. “When I heard about Grissom… I just… I feared the worst.”
Jack sighed as she leaned in to a kiss. “I promise you, I’m staying alive. What are you doing?”
“I…” Miranda hesitated. “I can’t tell you.”
“Miri…” Jack groaned. “If you need help. Please ask. It doesn’t need to be me. But please. Don’t be reckless.”
“I can’t have anyone help,” Miranda said. “It’s far too risky.”
“Just… just don’t get yourself killed…” Jack whispered. “I need you to survive. Do you hear me? I need you.”
Miranda nodded. “I…I will.”
