“I’m not going to be home for dinner tonight, I’m going to meet a few guys from work and watch the game at a bar. I’ll probably be in late.” Jeans invitation still weighed heavy on his mind and Richard had to be sure to come up with a solid excuse. Lisa never liked Jean much, for no apparent reason. The two of them had only met a handful of times, but his wife was adamant about the fact that Jean was not a good person. Richard thoroughly disagreed and liked spending time with Jeanie. They had been teaching together at Brightsdale College for the past decade and had always gotten along handsomely.

“Oh? Ok, sure. Maybe I’ll go over to my parents, mom has been wanting to make me her new lasagna recipe for ages now.” Even though Richard expected more push back, Lisa hadn’t looked up from her paper at all. He shrugged and decided to just take that interaction as a win, finishing his plate of scrambled eggs and leaving his wife at the counter to do some long overdue work in the backyard.
