Chapter 18 by Felixfalck Felixfalck

What's next?

Caitlyn's second turn

Clearly disinterested, at least compared to the rest of the group, Caitlyn got on with it. The feeling of dread one would expect to be clouding her mind right about then didn't exist. All she felt was ..apathy. Apathy for whatever outcome may arise, whatever fate awaited her. It wasn't all that important. One may begin to wonder why playing the game at all would be rational for someone as disinterested as her. With the alternative being sitting there with the rest of them, and not partake in the game, the choice was obvious. Albeit not very interesting, playing the game seemed just a tad better than not doing anything at all.

Right as she was about to throw the die, a glimmer of crimson caught her attention from the corner of her eye. The red die. She hadn't decided whether or not she wanted it, but seeing that she was still on the tile, she figured it was still up for grabs. Not that she was too interested in winning or losing, it was all a matter of trying to make this boring affair just a tad more exciting.

"You're really gonna risk it?"

Caitlyn didn't even entertain her sister's question with an answer. Instead, she first rolled her eyes, swiftly followed by the two dice. What would otherwise have been a fairly mediocre throw was somewhat of an alright step towards the finish thanks to the crimson die. 2+2 meant for a total of four, sending her charging towards a blue tile. Before she was struck by her newfound apathy, Caitlyn had closely paid attention to the rules of the game. Blue tiles meant clothing. Clothing was ..boring. The only thing she considered somewhat interesting was the wildcard which was the crimson die. How would she know how it changed her?

Instead of doing the expected thing, Caitlyn didn't bother to reach out for a blue card. Too much of a hassle to grab, read and interpret it anyway. Plus, it was only a clothing card anyway, whatever it would do certainly wouldn't be as drastic as some of the other things she'd seen, not to mention how painfully obvious its effects would be once she uttered those crucial words.

"I continue."

"But you didn't even read it yet!"

She might've looked younger than her, but Barbara was still Caitlyn's mother, and was worried by her reckless behavior. It was after all, exactly that type of card which "****" them all to play this game. Sabrina's life would be severely hindered by the permanent change to her wardrobe, which spurted the rest of her friends and family ..and Troy, to play the game. Now, Caitlyn was going headfirst into the exact same situation, without even as much as a second thought. Barbara didn't condone the act of continuing, they were all in it at this point anyway. It was however the fact that she didn't even bother to assess the risks that concerned her so deeply. Even despite her newly acquired want to live more in the moment, the worried mother couldn't help but feel apprehensive about her daughters careless act.

Before anymore protests could be made, or any defense could be uttered by Katt, though she most likely wouldn't have bothered to put up any anyway, the changed began. Similarly to Sabrina, the older sister's clothes began shifting, turning many shades darker, until they were black entirely. What remained was a rather skimpy, black skirt and a black top that didn't do much to cover her now bare stomach.

The edgy outfit looked out of place on the woman who always opted for bland, conservative clothing.

"Looks good on you sis, actually.."

"Yea, looks killer Katt!"

Confusion spread across all their faces upon hearing Camila's compliment. Katt.. Something about that sounded so very wrong, but at the same time, that was her name, wasn't it? ^

"What's up with you lot? Seen a ghost? Ha. I kinda like it, actually. Sure beats that boring garb I always wear.."

Though her preference in fashion hadn't been directly altered, Katt's distaste for things boring, and general lack of excitement lead her to become enticed by this new, more edgy wardrobe. At least it was somewhat interesting.

"Great. If you all could stop staring and get on with the game.."

That was about the extent of what Katt could care to put in effort towards the game for this round. Hopefully they wouldn't be too quick around the board until she inevitably had to throw her dice once more.
