A few things are explained

We settle in at Lyudmila’s. She does her best to feed us. The next day, we raid her shed for any shovels or anything else we think we can dig with before heading out. We leave Zhukov and Kapustin behind to make sure our home base and any of our extra supplies are secure.

Clarke explains to us that we’re setting up observation posts near a few important locations, and that they need to be well hidden. He says that what is important now is that we collect as much information as possible.

We leave Dadonov, Yakovich, and Dmitriev near the stone bridge, where they can overlook it and an important intersection next to it. I suspected that it might be important when we first saw it.

The remaining four of us stop further up the river at a spot overlooking a railroad bridge.

“You stay with here me.” Clarke tells Smirnov before turning to Hobbs and I. “You two go on ahead.”

The two of them give each other a nod and we part ways. I follow Hobbs further up river until something huge, white, and concrete comes into view.

“What is that?” I ask. I know what it is, but I don’t know the word in English.

“It’s a dam. Isn’t she something?”

“Who is she?”

“The dam.”

“Why you call dam she? Like woman?”

“We just do that sometimes, with some things. Ships, for example.”

“So why we have to sit in woods and look at dam? Is important, no?”

“Very. James and I, we trust you. We were going to tell you the next time one of us was alone with you.”

“I listening to you.”

“Do you remember those bridges?”

“Yes.”

“It’s our mission to destroy them both, well, part of our mission.”

“So what we doing here? Let’s go back to Lyudmila’s, get big fun bag and turn bridge into toothpicks!”

“It’s not that simple. They’re too big to go down like that.”

“So how?” I ask. “I waiting for you to blow my mind.”

“Do you see all that water that’s being held back?” He asks me with a grin, pointing. “Say it were to… not be held back.”

“So we make big hole in dam, and then what?”

“That water wipes the other two off the map, and we take the power plant inside, as a bonus.”

“So what we waiting for? Let’s go get bag and make dam like big accident baby condom.”

He laughs hard, and it takes him a moment to stop himself and recover.

“We still need to find our way in and plan a diversion for the time of the attack. We have no idea what they have down there, but we have an ace in the hole.” He explains.

“What is ace in hole?”

“We have a man on the inside. James is planning on meeting with him tomorrow. Once we verify that we can trust him, we can steal their security information. Guard schedules and the like. He might even be able to change them, maybe even give us an opportunity.”

“That sound like good plan.”

“Of course it’s a good plan! I just hope it works.”
