Go to the living room

Just inside the main entrance of the house was the staircase leading to the second floor. I climbed it and came to a very familiar spot. The Powell family living room had been the gathering place of choice for movie nights, championship games, award shows, and other special occasions. The wide windows looking out onto the front yard kept it bright during the day and the large space never felt cramped no matter how many people were there.

There was a large wall mounted television facing the main couch, an overstuffed and very comfortable mint green three-seater. The matching love seat was kept at a right angle, forming an L shape, and their glass coffee table sat in the middle of it all on top of a bright, patterned rug so big you could park a truck on it.

Kimberly’s twin sister Jenny and their younger brother Adam were sitting on the larger couch with controllers in their hands. Their focus was on the TV where they were currently using virtual avatars to pummel each other. They had not yet noticed me as I stood at the top of the landing watching the game play out. I had a nice side on view of them, Adam in loose jeans and a navy blue cardigan, Jenny in a relaxed pair of pyjama pants and a maroon tank top.

I considered how I wanted to take things from there.
