Marianne didn't believe that the men would ditch their dinner to chase them if they run in front of them but she didn't want to influence Mackenzie. Mackenzie took several seconds to look around herself and to decide the best possible course of action.

Mackenzie heard that they were talking about what happened even though they promised to keep it a secret. Marianne knew that the building was the dining hall of the college because she had more time to study the map.

Marianne kept moving ahead of Mackenzie even though she knew that the students were probably still eating their dinner in the other side of the building.
