8. Meli and Officer Duric are back

It isn’t long before there’s a knock on the door. You hear a voice outside, “Wait I have to check with–”

The door opens and the same cop as yesterday comes through the door with Meli Victor in tow. You raise an eyebrow as the door closes behind them.

“Listen,” the officer begins, “whatever punishment you deal out here wasn’t enough. I caught this girl shoplifting again.”

“Meli…” you look at your student, “this is entirely unnecessary.”

“Unnecessary?” The officer looks at you, “it’s illegal. I’m doing you a favor by not dragging the name of one of your students through the mud. But for a second offense, unless you convince me, I’m going to have to book her.”

“Officer Duric–” you begin.

“Kira is fine.” She cuts in.

“Kira, I promise you I’ll make it clear to Meli that shoplifting is unacceptable.”

“I’m not sure that’s enough. I need to know exactly how you’re going to punish her.”

“If you sit down, I can show you.” She does and you turn to Meli, “Meli, I need you to show the officer here that you’re sorry and you aren’t going to do anything again.”

Meli looks between the two of you. “Do you mean like…”

“I want you to show her that you’re sorry just like you showed me that you’re sorry, and I want you to mean it this time.”
